This looks wonderful! I wish I could come visit and ride with you!
As for my race, the only reason those speeds felt effortless (in comparison to normally) was because I was drafting another rider. I'd be killing myself to maintain that otherwise. They time the race two different ways. Unadjusted, where it's just based on your overall time, and donut adjusted, where they subtract 5 min per donut from your overall time. You have to manage your time, though, bc it takes a while to choke down those donuts, especially once you've eaten several.
I must so come and visit there. It is beautiful! No wonder you enjoy your biking so much. The pouch I received in my goodie bag is for a cell phone and can attach to a hydration pack or fuel belt. This is awesome as many of our long trail races require us to carry a cell phone.
I am an "older" runner who didn't start running until I was 50. I got hooked on running and racing very quickly. It's been awhile since I ran a marathon but I do several halves a year. The big news is that this is the year of the triathlon!

I can totally see why it's such a pleasure to bike there. Lovely.
