YES!

Look at this ! People are so nice !
My email first
Hello,
I am registered for the June 24 triathlon. I have been training for months including swimming lessons. It was to be my first tri and I was both eagerly anticipating it and dreading it. Yes, I said was because two days ago I fell off my bike and broke my wrist. I am wondering if I can defer my entry to the August 26 one, the next sprint that I should be able to do. Thank you for considering this.
Andrea
The reply:
Hi Andrea,
I can switch you to the August 26th sprint race. See you there,

David Payne
Vermont Sun

I have to confess I started sobbing when  I read this.  People being nice to me right now are my undoing.
When my friend picked me up at the airport yesterday she was trying to do whatever she could so I told her that.  She nicely responded by telling me to suck it up!

I know the deferring of the tri was a small thing but it means so much to me!  There is a tri in my future!

Well, I had no doubts. Just like you knew I would race again.

Yay!!!
I love that they did this.
A friend was supposed to run Big Sur with me and (happily) were selected as an adoptive parent the month before the race. Needless to say, she was not able to go. They deferred her race for next year - she was ecstatic.
Lots of races are in it for the money, but there are more than plenty that are in it for the participants.

How nice of them to let you defer. I know some races do not allow that and are very strict.

hooray for the awesome RD!! :) now heal up -- the re-healed bone will undoubtedly give you some sort of advantage in the water.

Great news! You'll rock the tri in August, and with a brand new wrists, hee, hee.
Seriously, glad everything is going well, and wow, your daughter has been rocking the races! (She gets it from her mother, eh?)

Sympathetic people are just awful aren't they? Making you cry like that. I vote we all treat you a little mean to save the tears (but only because we like you and feel sorry for you).

I'm so so very sorry about your wrist but so happy you got a deferral and you're going to get back on the bike and ride!
I hope you can keep up with some training while you heal.

That is great! You'll have enough time to get the wrist all well and get ready for that tri. All the best and take care!

It is wonderful that they had no trouble with you deferring your registration! I hope you heal up quickly so you can enjoy your tri in Aug.

They darn well should, but I'm so glad they DID.

I know exactly what you mean. When I'm feeling fragile, the last thing I need is for people to be sympathetic. I just need them to carry on...I've never been so happy to be ignored by a teacher as I was when I was sitting in (my college) class the day I got the call about my son's likely not graduating with tears running down my face for the first 30 minutes.
