Summer is for Reading

I always read a lot more in the summer and right now I have even more time to read than usual.  Reading seems to be my number one activity of choice right now so it seemed right to do a book post.

Recently Finished Books

The book I just finished that I couldn't put down is by a favorite series author. I only like the Abe Glitsky/Dismas Hardy books not the Hunt ones.  (The majority are Glitsky.) This book did not just come out but somehow I had missed it.  It captivated me right to the end.  It helps knowing some of the history of the main characters but is not necessary.

I've read this one since I got home from CO and it was another one I had a hard time putting down. I haven't loved all books by this author but definitely enjoyed this one.

Recently Finished Kindle Books

I read this book on the plane and it kept my interest even when I was cold, hungry, hot, teary, and frustrated.  It's not great literature but it did the trick. I would read another book by the author if the plot sounded good.

More chick lit but I have to admit I always like Wendy Wax. I read this on the CO trip too and it was great for traveling.

Books I'm Reading on the Kindle
This is a GREAT book I would recommend to anyone. I have actually been reading it for quite some time as I like to savor it. It is short stories or a series of essays from when Rick Reilly wrote for Sports Illustrated.  Many of the essays are very heart warming.  I remember many from when they were published. I am happy to say I am not even half way through these yet so I have many left to go.

I was reading this on the way to CO but have not looked at at all since. I do not want to read about anyone's triathlon experiences right now.

Books I Have a Chapter Downloaded on my Kindle to Sample

I tend to like Irish books and this looks like a good series.  I haven't tried it yet.

I don't remember where I got this one. But I like the looks of the cover which I hadn't seen until
I found this image for this post and now my interest is more peaked.  I do judge a book by it's cover.

Books I Have Out of the Library
Another series I have read - not as good as the one by Lescroart but I seem to keep reading them.

I am reading this right now and realize I have read it before but I do reread books so no problem.

I have read a different book by this author I really liked. I don't tend to like books that are mainly letters though.  I figured it was a library book so I had nothing to lose by giving it a chance.

Books of my own I may reread this summer

One of my favorites ever

Love this author, this is my favorite book by him

Like this author too but nothing has been
as good as The Horse Whisperer

A very old multi generational family book that is great.  She also has an excellent trilogy I own.

I'm always happy when it's been long enough to reread one of Maeve Binchy's books. She is absolutely one of my favorite authors.

What are you reading?
Any recommendations?
Do you reread books?
Do you prefer books or a kindle?  I love love love books but a kindle is great for  traveling.
Happy reading!

Buffalo Soldier was my favorite CB book too!

I don't gave a Kindle, so it's regular books for me.

I'm a really slow reader so I don't think a Kindle would be necessary for me. I'm currently reading the second girl with the dragon tattoo book. It is starting to get interesting but it is still not something I'm terribly interested in. I bought all three books though so I am hoping to finish. I took a break and am reading a basset hound book we bought a while back to make sure I remember how to raise a puppy!

I love to read and used to pack my summers with books of all kinds. Alas apres kiddos I've fallen out of the habit. Both kids have an extensive summer reading list though--need to hit the library pronto.

I read the Holgate book on my kindle too, earlier this year. It was pretty good and actually made me consider learning to swim and doing a triathlon! I can understand why you wouldn't want to read it right now though...

That's a LOT of books!
I am reading Ann Rule's Green River killer right now.
And it seems like every other person I have talked to is reading 50 Shades of Grey.

I have switched to reading a lot of Kindle books on my iPad, to save on storage space and make it easier for travel. Although, when I went to Hawaii recently I read several books in hard copy version (because of sand), and I really do love real books. So I flip flop. The cost of ebooks vs. books plays a part too, I tend to buy whatever version is cheaper, usually. In my 40+ years I seem to have morphed from a fiction reader to preferring memoirs, biography, non fiction (many involving sports and running). One novel I did read recently which I recommend is Molokai by Alan Bennett. I won't bother you with the triathlon/Ironman/marathon books I've been reading. :) However, if you haven't read it I would look into The Long Run by Matt Long...although he is an athlete the book is about his recovery from a life threatening injury. Other non-sports memoirs I recommend include, Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman; Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen; MWF Seeking BFF by Rachel Bertsche; Around the World in 80 Dates by Jennifer Cox; Lunch in Paris by Elizabeth Bard; On Rue Tatin: Living and Cooking in a French Town by Susan Herrmann; Till the Fat Girl Sings by Sharon Wheatley; and anything by Jen Lancaster. For a start. Oh, and one more novel, Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. (As you can see, when I am talking about books I lose all control!) (P.S. I am sorry if the HTML codes fail, I won't know until I post.)

I judge a book by it's cover too. And there's nothing wrong with that because the publishers spend a lot of time and energy designing book covers to be attractive. I was interested to see that you have a JoJo Moyes novel in your list - I've never read her but have one of hers next to my bed next on my pile.

I sometimes reread books! I've been reading a book written by Galbraith.

Oh my gosh...that's about my 5-year book reading list. I just get too sucked up in a book when I start one and neglect my entire family. Maybe that's a good thing sometimes :). I don't have a Kindle and will probably never own one. I did just finish the Fifty Shades trilogy...shame on me!! ;)

Holy moly! You have read more than I have in two years! Thanks for the ideas.

Summer IS for reading. So is fall and winter and spring, hee, hee. Right now I'm reading "The Realms of Gold" by Maragret Drabble. It's an old book but oh, how I love the character of Frances Wingate!
I'm also reading Lynn Sharon Schwartz's travel memoir "Not Now, Voyager."
P.S. People who love reading and running are the best.
