2012 Here I Come!

2012 Here I Come!

Once again I have a lot of goals. I can't seem to help myself.  It makes working out more fun for me. I am a huge list person and I love to be able to keep track of things on a chart that I make for the year.  Yeah, huge geek here which I'm sure has been long apparent.  I have some very different goals which I find rather scary but you have to keep growing in life right?!

New Goals

1. I want to race in a triathlon.  My goal will be to finish it before all the volunteers have gone home.  I want to do at least part of the swim doing free style.  I would like to do at least two triathlons before the  season is over.

2. I want to ride a new bike route out of my biking books at least four times.

3.  I want need to learn to change a flat tire.

4. I want to learn to ride with clipless pedals.

5.  I want to ride a century.  This past summer I reached a new distance of 62 miles.  Next summer I want to get all the way to 100.

6. I want to take swimming lessons to help my "technique" if it could even be called that.

7. I want to race in Central Park (hopefully with Darlene.) Though Darlene has had a huge recent setback. :(

Repeating but want to keep them goals

8.  I want to work on my speed by improving my times as the year progresses.

9. I want to race in at least 4 new races.

10.  I want to compete in at least 4 half marathons.

11.  I want to place in my age group.

12. I want to be in the top half of the field.

13.  I want to do a race a month.

14. I want to meet more bloggy friends.

15.  I want to race with my family.

16. I want to race near the ocean.

17.  I want to do scenic races.

I have no doubt that you're going to meet those goal and then some. Clipless isn't nearly as scary as I'd made it out to myself to be. And I just know you're going to surprise yourself in that tri. You're already on such the right track. It's going to be fun to watch.

And I'd sure like to help with #14. :)

You have got those goals in the bag! Can't wait to follow your 2012 journey.

I thought clipless pedals would scare the crap out of me and now I can't imagine not having them :). I hope I feel the same way about aero someday.

Love your list. Keep us posted as you check things off.
Clipless is easy, and that comes from a klutz like me so if I think it's easy, you will have no problems at all.

The are awesome goals!

I'd be happy to just run in Central Park. The distance getting there does make it a little tricky.

Did you admire how restrained I was on Words with Friends when I played that incredibly awesome mega-move and said nothing about it? I have been known to write things like 'read it and weep' to certain people (sorry Mum) so I thought it was worth mentioning.

That Tri you linked to is on my birthday!
I'm excited to do this triathlon thing with you. Now if I can just convince myself to train for the swim portion. Must find a pool (though I'll probably wait until I'm back from my honeymoon).
You have great goals and I like the ones you held onto from last year. Maybe we'll get to meet sometime when you're in DC.

Nothing wrong with goals Andrea. I like yours. Can't wait to read all about your first triathlon.

I don't have goals but I am a list person and I track every workout. I love to look back at the end of a year and see how I've done and if I did better than the year before.

Good luck, I look forward to another year on your blog.

Thanks for stopping into my blog! I'm loving all of your 2012 goals...

to answer your question about Tri's...I completed my first Try-a-Tri when I was 54, took some time away from tri's to gain confidence on my bike, which included joining a non-competitive bike club for one year. Had quite a few adventures with them and many long distances, one including an unsupported bike tour in Upstate New York for three days, (unsupported, meaning I had to carry all my own "everything" on the bike in panniers).

Last year, like you I got back to the pool and yes, my pool is almost an hour away too...but I completed my first ever 3k swim race. At age 58, I entered and completed my first ever Sprint & Olympic distance placing 2nd in my age group for both events and then decided to go for it with my first Half Iron...hope this helps you with continuing to "Tri"...

BTW, Marlene and I are great friends and I'm soooo very excited that she is now involved with triathlons too....

Can hardly wait to see what your 2012 brings!!

Good luck. I am sure you will meet most of those goals or ... why not?...all of them.
Scenic races are the best, I always look for them.
