Quote.....Books......Workouts.........January Stats

1. The podcast Marathon Training Academy had this quote on Facebook the other day and I absolutely LOVE it.

‎"I made a pact with myself to never complain about an event I've successfully finished. No matter what my finish time or pace, I will cross the line with a pocket full of gratitude. Records are meant to be broken, but those moments are far and few between. Every adventure offers an opportunity to evolve, explore, and celebrate life. And that is the gift that keeps on giving." Jenny Hadfield

2.  I went to the library and my favorite librarian who likes to recommend books for me was there.  She made me check out suggested I try:

The Passage by Justin Cronin  She told me twice not to give up on it.  It is the first of a trilogy.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness also the first of a trilogy.

Buried Secrets by Joseph Finder

The Innocent by Taylor Stevens

Does anyone know any of these and want to chime in? Then we got talking about young adult series and she recommended City of Embers I believe. I figure I can get that one at school.  She told me to have all four at once ready to go. I think it was four.

I also checked out the newest by Robert Tanenbaum and a couple of chick lit types by Marcia Willett.

I also got Next to Love by Ellen Feldman because the jacket made it sound good.

I think I am set for awhile.  I need to stop writing this and go read!

3. This is a different week for me workout wise because most of my workouts are early morning.  Mondays was early because I squeezed it in before my doctor's appointment.  Tuesday was my swim day.  Thursday will be a second swim day due to the race this weekend and no swim lesson on Saturday.  The only day I  worked out after school was Wednesday.  I love the early morning stuff but it rarely works out this way. Plus the tireds catch up with me.

4.  January Stats

Miles Run: 112.7

Miles Biked: 0

Yards Swam: 11,600 Love this one. Doesn't it sound huge?  I still have no real comprehension of reasonableness for swims so this sounds Olympian to me.

Number of Races: 1

Number of Visits to the Gym: 14 (I counted the Saturday pool lessons since the place is affiliated with my gym and that's why I can go there.)

I've heard City of Ember is great! Haven't read it yet...I spent my weekend last wk reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, a new YA book. Sooo intense and captivating.

Oh my gosh, your numbers are amazing! Mine are nowhere near that. And yes, the swim one sounds enormous. :)

Haven't read any of those books, so I can't chime in there.

Way to go on the swim miles and yes it does sound like a lot, which is awesome.

The books don't ring a bell for me, but that doesn't mean much...I'm just starting to read more. Let me know if any are good.

I just finished The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet.

I'm reading Cutting for Stone and Unbroken currently.

Excellent workout month Andrea!

I don't know any of those books, let me know if you've read one and if you liked it. Always looking for good books to read.

Sounds like you had a solid month of workouts. That swimming number looks pretty rockstar to me as well.

Great job on January! Who knew you would become such a FISH!

Great January numbers! I hope I can get near your running miles in the near future!

LOVE the quote! Yes - those numbers do seem olympian - you should be so proud :)

I saw a picture on facebook yesterday of a person reading a book. The caption was "a vintage ipad". LOL. Seems so many read on the kindle or ipad these days. I think I would miss turning the pages and the actual feeling of holding the book.

Love that quote!

I really liked The Passage - I love those books whose authors predict the future, even if it is bleak (which it usually is) - it fascinates me. In that vein, have you read The Hunger Games trilogy yet? My 14 year old and I devoured those books last summer.

Hunger Games is great. Let us know about those books.

Ooh I googled the Passge. It looks good! May have to join you in that. Need to read more anyway...

112 miles is a great start to the year. I have to step up my ideas to catch you up!

A very good way to start the year.
That quote is wonderful. Sometimes I complain because I could do better: after the race it is easy to find where and how I made the mistakes.

I always love book selections, thanks for posting.

Great running and swimming this month. I always like to convert my swimming yards to miles, it means more...11,6000 = 6.5 miles...that's awesome!

Awesome January!
I feel very un-read as I haven't heard of any of those. I really need to get to the library and read some new stuff not just the same authors over and over...

wow, nice job in the pool this month!!!!!

Wow, that IS a great quote!! And 11,600 of anything is surely something to be proud of. Olympian for sure!!

What a great start to the new year! That amount of "yardage" sounds like 100s of miles, way to go on your swimming. Do you miss biking?

That is a wonderful quote. I need to keep that in mind because ive been cursing my poor running a lot lately. Gotta love Jenny H.
Holy bookworm I'd love to have all that reading on tap. I'm still wading through Unbroken, although I'm grateful for any reading at all.
Great mileage!
