Look What I Got!

Look at this beautful road bike!  It's mine!!!! I love it!  I bought it on Saturday and picked it up last  night. When I got home it was raining and dark so I took it for it's first ride tonight.  I did fairly well with the shifting all things considered. I plan to go clipless at some point but glad I didn't start that way. It came with cages on the pedals and I didn't even dare use those tonight!  I took a fairly easy route for a 10 mile ride. I can see I need to get back in bike shape but had a blast.  You will be hearing a lot more about my new baby in the weeks and days to come that is for sure! I am already planning many summer rides.  But first there's April vacation........! I already have one route mapped out (in another state) but not positive I will be up to the distance.

I loved the guy who did the basic fitting of my bike last night.  He didn't talk down to me as the gray haired lady who must just tool around the block.  He had lots of questions about routes I like, when I like to ride, with friends or alone.  I had just come from my swimming lesson so the old triathlon came up. Why do I keep telling people?  It must be my insurance that I do in fact do it!

When I was driving home from school to ride my bike I was surprised to see snow on the mountain.  It was chilly but not terrible.  Perhaps it was just my euphoria from being on the bike that kept me warm.

Here's another view of the snowy mountain taken on my run after I put my bike away!  Yes, I did a brick!  Even though I had a long transition my legs were still tired. I can see I am going to have to do many of these before the end of June.  But yay me for finally getting out there on the bike and throwing running into the mix too!

I'm tapering my runs for my half this weekend although I know I will swim tomorrow and probably will do a short bike ride again. Friday I will totally rest.

Ooo, I so like the bike. And you picked a really good brand (from what extremely little I know about bikes :)).

Yeah, we're to get some snow this weekend, just in time for my half marathon. Yipee. I hope you have a fantastic race!! Must be half marathon weekend ;).

It's so purty! I can see why you're excited - it's like getting new running shoes (just a bit more expensive).

Very nice! I honestly thought you had bought a wetsuit so I was definitely surprised when I saw the photo. haha.
I really need to dust off my bike and get out there. Hopefully I'll do that this weekend. Maybe try a brick myself.

Nice!

I was a little afraid of going clipless as well. I ended up going with speedplay frogs with mountain bike shoes. The frogs are easy to get in and out of and mountain bike shoes have recessed cleats so it's easy to walk in them. Something to think about...

Love the bike.

It is a beautiful bike, for sure! Congratulations on your wonderful and invaluable purchase. Clipless is the way to go and it will be a piece of cake. We always enjoy seeing the landscape photos from your area - it is very lovely.

Have a great race this weekend! :-)

fun. Specialized make great bikes. Been a long while for me on a bike. I always get the urge to buy a new every July (Tour de France). Enjoy! It took me awhile to get used to clipless. To be honest, I still don't like them much. It makes a difference in speed/cadence though.

I KNEW it was a bike!!! I'm so excited for you! :) It's beautiful!! That's got to provide some good motivation to ride.

From what I've been told, the cages don't make that much difference in your speed, cadence, etc, and I'd be terrified of being caught in them. We all know I'm not the most graceful, though.

FANCY! I also have a specialized it's an allez. I love it! I have been considering upgrading to a tri bike...but for my purposes adding aero bars to my road bike would probably be about the same upgrade :).

nice bike! i still need to "take the plunge" and get a real road bike. i continue to scoff at the $$$ price tag. way to get out there right away! on the few bricks i've done, my legs always feel heavy and slow, but my pace usually surprises me. (i mean, it's nothing olympian but it's never as slow as i think it is/as it feels)
