Look out Dana Torres. So you were the oldest swimmer in the Olympics? There just may an even older swimmer in the next Olympics!
The last time I went swimming I did 6 sets of 2 laps of freestyle (plus all my breast stroke laps.) Originally I was doing one lap only! I stated the other day that soon I was going to try 3 laps in a row. So what did I do today? Hold onto your hats..........I swam 6 sets of 3 laps each of the freestyle. That my friends is 18 total freestyle laps compared to the previous 12. Pretty steep improvement right???? I figure with that rate of improvement I will surely be ready for the next Olympics. You can all say you knew me when!
Seriously, I am very impressed with my improvement. I am still doing my job at the pool of making everyone else feel good about their technique but I am also beginning - just beginning to feel good about mine. I still cannot imagine doing the freestyle for a quarter mile or a half mile or whatever distance it is you swim in a sprint tri (see how little I know) in a lake with no walls or solid ends of lanes. Today was bad enough when both walls were taken and I had to swim in the middle of the pool! My biggest worry was that I would swim into a swimmer in a neighboring lane. But 3 laps in a row! Whoever would have thought? The time in the pool flies by. If I wasn't going to work I would stay longer but I have increased my overall number of laps to a respectable but manageable amount for a slow swimmer. I'm glad I have a lot of time until summer.
On the running front I had a great treadmill workout yesterday. I went immediately after school but I had to be back at school for a parent conference. So my time was limited and I pushed it and had a terrific semi speedy workout. The other bonus - when you go to a parent conference straight from the gym (smelly maybe?) the parents don't linger and talk and talk and you get home at a decent hour!
I rarely post about giveaways but I want at least one shirt from this company so I am. But don't bother go look. It probably isn't to your taste.
The giveway is on Juice Boxes and Crayolas blog. I have a feeling one or two of these shirts will be on my Christmas list.

keep at it! i learned to swim for my 40th b'day and eventually got to be a decent swimmer. the advantage of learning when you are older is that you don't have any bad swim habits to break!
You are making HUGE progress! And enjoying it, which is more than I was able to say. Your posts about swimming do make me miss the pool...a little.
Way to scare off the parents! Maybe I should try that technique on the clients I don't like but who like to hang around and chat when I
m busy.
Great job - I find swimming improvements to be so satisfying b/c it's such an incredibly challenging activity. I haven't been in the pool since August after months of swimming and am nervous about starting all over again. You are inspiring me to take another plunge.
GOLD medal! Looks to me like you are ready for a sprint tri :)
That is so great that you're enjoying the swimming so much. I'm really looking forward to getting into the pool again now that marathon training is over!
I'm so excited for your improvements in the pool! You almost make me want to give swimming a shot.. almost. If I didn't have to figure out where I can swim and pay for it I'd totally do it.
Well done with the swimming! Wow, thinking about a tri is very exciting!
You so got this in the bag. If you keep adding swim laps you'll be up for a sprint tri (1/2 mile swim typically) in no time! And, I don't know about races on the east coast, but here on the west coast they have a lot of "tri-it" races where they cut the swimming shorter to 1/4 mi or sometimes less.
Watch out AGR is going tri this summer!
You're going to have no problem at a sprint this summer! Before you know it, you'll be getting in nice, long swim workouts and loving it. And then there's the Bay Swim. ; )
LOL about scaring off the parents - great strategy!
And I promise you, I will come watch you swim in London when you make the Olympic team!
Congrats on your race last weekend and I'm still curious what you got at LULU when in DC. :)
Haha on your plan to keep the parents away!!
Did I miss the announcement? Are you doing a tri?
Way to go on the swimming! That's some great improvement.
AWESOME JOB ON THE SWIM!!! I have so much respect for folks that can swim. It's so good for you ... but I sink like a rock!
Great job on the swimming, girl!! Practice, practice, practice and you will make great strides. Or strokes. Bahahaaha!!
WOW! Look at you, little fish! I find improvements come quickly in the pool when you stick with it. Good for you!
Good luck with the giveaway!!!
A great progress, you are working well in the pool.
As you know I hate the dreadmill but I think I will use it for some speed workout.
