My Beloved Bike Path FLOODED!

Lake Champlain reaches flood stage at 100 feet.  The highest recorded level on the Burlington side was 101.86 feet in April in 1993.  The highest recording on the New York side was 102.1 feet in May in 1869.  As of 8 PM last night the lake was at 102.75 feet in Burlington. It is expected to continue to rise as the rivers that were so swollen previously in the week empty into it.  It  was just a few weeks ago I raced a half marathon all along the bike path and it is one month before the Marathon follows the same path.  At the time of the half the worry was clearing the snow off.
There is a lot of debris everywhere

No hamburgers here today

Childrens' playground completely covered

This is a parking lot

You think?

This is approaching one of my favorite parts on the bike
path. You could not get there.

The "path" continues
around this corner in both directions

This is another part farther south

Tomorrow I have my first race of my many May races.  It is a The Maple Half. I don't have any big goals for it.  I ran it last year in 2:06:18 so I would love to beat that time or at least be close to it. My main memory from last year is the wind.  I don't know if that will be a factor. I am more worried about the heat as 70 is projected for tomorrow and I have still been wearing layers!  Whatever. I plan to have fun and enjoy it. I do have some friends doing it which is always great.  One has become a blogger so go give her a little bloggy love. I am sure she will also be doing a race report after the race.

Lake Champlain is crazy!! I went to Travis's work yesterday and the ranch is close to the lake in Shoreham and there were houses completely surrounded by water.
I'm excited, nervous, anxious for the race today. But excited to do a recap!! I'll write about my goals today:) See you tomorrow

Ugh! I don't like flooding! We had flash flood warnings when the nasty weather came our way. I had to take a different route to work because some of the roads were underwater.

Good luck on your half! :)

Oh, boo! Stinks that your bike path is flooded. Good luck in your half tomorrow. Wishing you perfect running weather and a great day. Thank you so much for your comment on my blog about marathon fears. I don't know if it was the process of getting it out there or all of the encouraging comments, but I'm feeling pretty at peace with hints of excitement. :)

BTW, would it be OK if I copied some of your pictures from this post? We're headed into a Weather unit at school and one of the things we talk about it flooding.

Isn't it snow, it's the water that's causing problems. Looks pretty serious!

I hope your half today is going well and that you're having lots of fun.

oh my.... flood pictures always amaze me. I can't imagine there being so much water that it can cover all that area.

Good luck on your half tomorrow! Enjoy the race :)

Holy cow!! That is a ton of water, sorry about your favorite bike path.

Good luck tomorrow! I am running a half tomorrow too but I am thinking my time is going to be the worst ever. At least I am running and plan on finishing. Take care!

Oh that flooding is amazing - so sorry for you path and everything else that got flooded. Does this happen very often? I went to Vermont for the first time this past summer but we were down south in Manchester (wedding) and didn't make it up to the lake. Someday I'd like to go back and see the rest of the state (and eat more cheese).
Hopefully things will dry out soon!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. This year I'll be running 2 marathons (my first): Seattle RNR and Portland Marathon (Oregon). I need to get more halfs in my schedule somehow.

I love the way that the powers-that-be have the ability to state the obvious. The thing is, if they didn't there would be at least one idiot who managed to get himself into trouble and they try to sue them.

Wow, that is crazy! A lot of cleaning up ahead. All the best for the half!

That's terrible, hope it clears off soon, but that looks like it's going to take awhile! I hope it clears in time for the marathon!
