Dentists, Bikes and More VCM

Emily and I at VCM.  I love this picture. (The registration director emailed
this to us. Seriously - THE.BEST.RACE.EVER)

1. This morning I got back in the pool for the first time in a month.  I couldn't swim because of oral surgery.  My doctor may have been being overly cautious but for the money I am putting down for this, I listened.  I could tell I had lost fitness and forgotten "skills" from my lessons. Oh well, it couldn't be helped. I will work on building back up some stamina and somehow fitting in two open water swims.  Yikes. I guess I need to open up that wet suit.

2. I went to the regular dentist today (as opposed to the oral surgeon) and had a tooth drilled with no novocaine. I am one tough lady!  Actually it was very small and there was truly no pain. Plus in my I have used all my dental insurance state I loved not having anything unneeded.

3. Immediately after my dental appointment I went on a bike ride on a just beautiful day!  I did my favorite 20 mile route. It is quite hilly - up and down and I pushed hard trying to get my pace up!  I still was at 13. 5 for the whole thing.  I find 16-17-18 mile paces beyond my comprehension.  But I had a great ride!  Great!

4. Back to my dentist.  He is my NEW dentist as my OLD dentist retired. So I have met this guy just 3 times. Today he asked me if I had a  pair of sneakers to go with every outfit. Apparently he has noticed my somewhat loud shoes!

5.  I'm going to add some more pictures of VCM.  Still thrilled over how much fun I had at that race.  Tons and tons and tons of fun.
Approaching the finish at VCM!  I'm pumped to get
in under 4 hours.

We rocked it!

I've loved reading your and Emily's race recaps of the VCM. What a great experience! So cool that the RD emailed you the picture. :)

Hills are tough. Almost all of my riding lately has been on flat routes, which makes keeping higher paces easier...but hills make you stronger.

You definitely rocked it, way to go ... so happy for you guys!! Love that the race director mailed you a picture, you don't find many kind enough to take the time to do so. Great memories of a very special day!

Hahah...funny about the shoes. You must love to shoe shop :).

Love that your dentist noticed your shoes! Good to get back into the pool again. I need to do the same (chicken).

"fit in two open water swims"... you say that so casually. You are awesome! Great biking as well. The VCM photos say it all. Most people here in SA run Comrades every year for ever and ever...:) Yep, that's how it is here. One of my bets running friends will do her 20th on Sunday. She has run more than 200 standard marathons. It is easy to get in. The 18000 spots fill up over two months. You need to enter and then qualify by running a marathon in sub 5 hours. No refunds on entries so people don't just rush into it.

Yeah you did!
I think we may have the same dentist. Is the new dentist the son of the old dentist?

That is an amazing picture, and how awesome that they sent it to you?! That sure doesn't happen with most races.

Good for you getting back in the pool. And good luck with your open water swims!

Frame that photo of you & Emily!!!
Hope you're done with the dentist. I hate going. No novacaine - WOW!!

Good luck with the swimming. I am in awe.

Nice job on the race! I love races when my dad and I do the whole thing together.

I'm sure you'll build the swimming back up quickly!

Glad you made it back to the pool and hopefully your dentist visits are over. I hate going to the dentist.

I'd be glad to give you advice on tapering. When is your race and what does a typical week schedule look like for you training wise?

Do you have a pair of sneakers that go with every outfit? I'm sure it's more likely than having a pair of high heels that go with every outfit.

I'm so glad you're healed enough to get back into the pool. That means solid foods too surely.

Love it that the dentist noticed the shoes! Especially running shoes. Don't you feel proud?
Love the pictures. Looks like you had a good time.

Whoa, you are brave to have a tooth drilled without numbing it! It cracks me up that your new dentist noticed your flashy shoes!!!

That photo of you and Emily running is really lovely. It sounds as though you are still buzzing from the high of that race!

I think your 13.5 mph pace on the bike is pretty awesome.
Definitely a good idea to practice open water swims.
Love all your VCM race photos!

Oh, and I had a tooth refilled once without numbing and it surprisingly didn't hurt. My dentist just took his time so the friction didn't cause too much heat. It's fun to be able to tell people though!

That is such a great pic! You are not the first to say how great VCM is...may have to get that one on the schedule one of these years.
A month out of the pool? Better safe than sorry I guess.
