Queen For A Day

Today is my birthday so in my world that means I am queen for a day.  I am not one to shy away from birthdays, in fact I love them!  I can do what I want, eat what I want (no calories on bdays) and go where I want.

A bucket of spuds
I took my time getting going but then met my sweet son who took me out for breakfast.  There were a lot of people waiting to get in but when you are a party of two willing to eat at the counter you skip over everyone!  There were lots of choices, all good.  First Jameson got a bucket of spuds which I had told him I didn't want any. Well that turned out be a lie, they were fantastic.

I got zuchinni bread french toast and they were also fantastic.  Jameson got pancakes but not just any pancakes, gingerbread pancakes.

Then of course we had to top them with this:

I did a little shopping around Church Street using those freebies you get with cards - $10 at The Body Shoppe and at VS.  Then I went to the bike path for an easy ride. I am racing tomorrow so wasn't going to run or bike hard but I could NOT do nothing fun on my birthday.  I liked the ride but I was jealous of the runners.  The path was also more crowded than I am used to, maybe because of the time of day.  There were a lot of people who did not know bike path etiquette and it was a pain.  I stopped and read  for awhile in one of my favorite parks along the way taking my time and enjoying the day.  This was the first time I had been on the path since the flooding and many parts of it are still in bad shape and of course you can not use the Causeway at all much to my dismay.
Looking off the bike bridge

There is one section where many trees came down from erosion. It is hard to show it but these pictures do a little.

These next two pictures show the park I read in.  These benches
on cement used to be surrounded by ground, another sign
of huge erosion from the flooding.

Before I was done I had to use the bathroom and I had not brought my lock with me but I easily solved that problem.

Once done I was off to Starbucks to have my free birthday drink and do some more reading and relaxing before one last stop.  I got a hitch put on my car yesterday and today I got a bike rack I had been eyeing. If I can ever get my husband to take a day off now we can both go biking.
Tomorrow I am going to race in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, an area I rarely get to.  My husband is a little jealous and plans to make me go back in the fall so he can go. When I did a race in every county in Vermont he went to both Northeast Kingdom races with me because it is such a pretty part of the state. Since I am already up there I am bringing my bike to get a ride in after the race. He mapped out a route for me to try. He estimates it at 25 -28 miles and not too hilly. Let's hope he's right!  Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day and I am really looking forward to both parts of my adventure.  This will be the first 10K of the year for me, maybe the only one.

We didn't go out to dinner because I wanted to stay home and just relax so we ordered a pizza so there would be no cooking involved.  Now I'm having a cold beer and continuing in my role of Queen for A Day!

To answer your question - my commute is 18 miles. I took a longer route in the morning, but took the direct route one. 41 miles today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my friend! I'm sorry I missed it on your big day.

That breakfast looks delicious, and that's a great bike rack.

It's funny that you were jealous of the runners. When I was hurt last year and couldn't ride, I was so jealous of the bicyclists. The grass is always greener, right? :) I saw sooo many bikes on bike racks on my drive back today, and I was so wishing I'd been able to take and use one of my bikes. Of course, I probably would've slept instead, which is why I did no running.
