I suck at running in the humidity and heat

Saturday in DC
Saturday morning I ran with Emily. We went toward Georgetown but then veered off into Rock Creek Park.  There were many runners out "enjoying" the day.  I was really sucking wind trying to keep up with Emily who I am sure was running a very slow pace for her. Eventually we got to the zoo which is rather hilly. At first I kept running but then I decided I needed a walk break. So I walked to the zoo's gates before continuing the run back downhill thank goodness.  I don't know if I am that much slower or the heat (which everyone keeps telling me is not that bad) is really getting to me. When I am done running I am DRENCHED with sweat. I felt rather nauseous for quite awhile like I had done a much longer run.  And I did bring water.

Later today we went to The National Geographic Museum which had an outstanding exhibit on the Amundsen/Scott race to the South Pole.  This is something I am very passionate about when I teach it and I loved seeing some artifacts and new information.  It would be a great field trip to bring the kids to.  A little far but a great one!

We went to the movies and saw Crazy Stupid Love. I loved it.  Was not sure I would but today the humor in it really fit the bill. I may need to go to it again as I know my husband would also love it.

Then we played two games of Upwords - similar to Scrabble. We actually played another game tonight (Sunday) and the same person may have won all three games (which were very competitive). And it may have been ME!

Sounds like you're having a great time with Emily!

That humidity is also tough on the lungs...although I gather even if it was nice and cool out, I'd have a hard time keeping up with Emily :)

Love how you two get along, you remind me of my daughter and I.

I may go check out that movie too :)

My run sucked today & I like heat...but the humidity is a different story.

I wouldn't worry about your pace on humid days. Instead I focus more on effort - or I try to!

You ARE an all-around competitive machine!!! You go, girl! :-) If it provides any comfort to you - we suck in the heat and humidity, too!
Did you happen to stop and admire the snake exhibit at the zoo??? :-)

I like that you colour-coordinated for the picture. And I don'[t know of anyone who runs better in the heat and humidity. It's just starting to warm up here ever so slightly and already I'm fearing the onset of Summer.

It's so great to hear you're enjoying your time in DC so much.

You know I suck at running in the heat so I can totally understand you when you say you don't like running in it.

Don't worry everyone is slower in the heat. I suck wind all summer! Maybe your daughter was going slower, but if I ever got the chance to run with my Mom, I would crawl if I had to!

I haven't played Upwords in years. I didnt know they still made it. Running in the heat and humidity can really get to you during and after a run. I'm glad you carried water.

The weather was definitely better than it had been for most of July, but if you're not used to running in it then it's just as bad! I suck at running in the heat and humidity as well but I do become somewhat acclimated from running in it all the time. Just be thankful that you get to go back to VT and run in better weather! I'm already looking forward to fall!
I've never been to the National geographic museum. Sounds like it would be something I'd enjoy though.

The humidity has been killer this year...on Sunday we were covered in rain AND sweat...the slime run we called it.
Upwords...I have never heard of that...

I am so with you on the heat/humidity. It was more humid than hot this weekend, and overcast. Yet it was as if I'd jumped in a pool. Dripping wet. I hate it and my runs suck!
What a nice visit with Emily! I too would be sucking wind big time.

Ughhh... I struggle so badly in the heat-actually the humidity is often worse which sometimes is very high even when the actual temperature isn't deathly. I haven't stopped running since last October and my paces right now for easy runs are much slower in this than they were in the winter. I sweat profusely and everything seems to take more effort. I'm counting on this paying off when I get the cool crisp air of fall!

I love Upwords!!

You know, it may not be "that hot" for people who live in that weather all the time, but it's a big change for your body. And you can take comfort in knowing they'd probably be looking for long sleeves and jeans in your shorts weather. :)

The heat/humidity is getting me too! It's like running through water here :(
Congrats on your sweet victory!

The heat and humidity ALWAYS get to me, too!

I've never played Upwords, but it sounds like a fun game. My fiance and I should add it to our Target gift registry for our wedding!
