A Freakishly Hot Morning - And They Say I Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!

Yeah!  I'm in DC. I'm on vacation- the one I've been looking forward to all summer and I'm with my girl!

Easy flight, Em met me as I got off the Metro and we went home.  Home this time is different than my previous visits as "we" are now at the Rocketships.  So I need to orient myself and find my way around although truthfully it is not very different.  The Rocketship is a top notch guy to let his GF's mom hang out on their couch taking up most of the living room for more than a few days!
I look half dead.

Emily looks amazingly fresh!

This morning Em and I took a 5 mile run - a loop, the best kind, past some of the monuments - GREAT!  But I think it was exceedingly hot. I was soaking wet when we were done.  It has certainly been humid in Vermont but the last few mornings when I have run it was in the 50s. Talk about perfect.  Not the case this morning. I think it may have been in the 70s but I can't imagine what the humidity index was.  I did not carry water and I think I will have to change that thinking even for a short run. At home I have to be going more than 10 miles to carry water and even then I don't always do it. I'm not saying that is a good thing, I am just telling you what I do.

I plan to hit up some museums today. Emily thinks I am going to walk to them (it isn't more than a couple miles or so) but I am thinking about the heat and I just may hop on the Metro.  I'm not the one with sweat in the name of my blog after all.

Emily is even going to go to some museums with me which doesn't always happen.  I have been wanting to go to the National Geographic Museum since I have been coming.  But have we gone?  Nooo.  But the Rocketship also wants to go so now we're going. Hmm. Who has more influence with Emily?
I think there is an exhibit about Scott/Amundsen which will thrill me to no end. Seriously. I am a real Antarctica geek.  It is my favorite thing I teach and I am rather passionate about it.  CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!  I also plan to go to the National Gallery of Art again  - without Em and maybe the Smithsonian American Art Museum. I have never been there.  And more!

Don't worry.  I will keep you posted.

Enjoy your time here! It's hot and humid but better than it has been. I'll keep my eye out for you while I'm on the mall in a bit.
In the summer, I take my camelbak with water on most runs. I get overheated pretty easily and this keeps me able to log miles during these dreadful months.

So many beautiful places to run there. I'm jealous, even of the heat...this morning's 75 degrees was the coolest it's been here in a long time....but of the museums, too. It's been an even longer time since I could just go and soak in a museum. It's such a different experience when you're hoping your kids get something out of it, pointing stuff out to them, and kind of speed-reading your way through.

I carried water on runs longer than 2 miles even through the winter. I just like to drink when I want to drink.

I've been the same with water for most of my runs. I always think "nah, I don't need to carry water." Then I feel it half way through my run and think "Man, I should have brought that along." haha

Drink lots of water and enjoy the museums!!

Had to laugh at "who has more influence" - at least you both win in this case! Great job on the morning run and enjoy your day!

I hate it when I talk myself out of bringing water, even when I know it's hot enough that I'll want it - fail!
Have fun museum hopping, sounds like a great time!

I think the NG museum would be tops of my list to visit, too! I hope you have a fantastic time...I always think about my daughter whenever you go visit Em...she's almost 21 now and I know one day she'll be moving away (sigh).

I just ran 5 miles on the mall and I have to agree with Emily - this is much cooler than it has been, even with the humidity! What I would give to run in 50 degrees right now though.

Have a wonderful time and YES! take water when you run in DC in the summer.

I'm bummed I'm not going to be able to meet up with you this time. Hopefully next time...
