Looking Forward to my Half and other stuff

In all the excitement of registering for my first tri I forgot to mention that I got into the two person relay for the Vermont City Marathon. I did not get in last year although I ended up being able to buy a bib. Better yet..........my son is going to run it with me and my daughter will be doing the full.  I love love love this race and cannot recommend it enough. If it is a race you are remotely considering get rid of the remoteness and do it!

I sent an email to two health clubs asking about swim lessons explaining my needs and weaknesses. One facility told me their instructors were not taking new clients. That seems like a poor way to run a health club. The other club emailed me right away to say yes they had instructors who could help me (at least they are thinking positively) so I have emailed back attempting to find a time.  I am excited about another try at getting better.  I did feel I had a good swim on Thursday and went faster.  When I was done my mile I thought the clock was wrong but  I was just a wee bit speedier.  Or not so slow.

I did my run after school - my much delayed brick and that went great too!

Sunday I have my first half marathon of 2012, hopefully the first of many.  This will be my 19th half!
It is not a half I have trained specifically for so what are my goals.

I want it to be between my slowest (2:12:10) and fastest (2:00:55) half marathons for a time.

My two times at this half were 2:05:08 and 2:07:32 last year.  The course has changed some but hopefully not too much. I did negative splits at this race loving the last few miles which is so unusual for me. I hope that is still possible.

I want to have no miles in the 10s.

I want to have fun and not be so involved in the race I don't enjoy running along the ocean.

Have a great half!

You are improving on your swim, way to go! Awesome job on the brick workout! I did mine today!

That is great news that someone will help you with swimming, it will make a huge difference. Anytime you have someone push you...it always helps!

Ha, ha - you are a woman after my own heart - a new skirt to help my boo-boo get better. I am sure a little shoe shopping would help, as well. :-) I was actually just cruising the skirts at Running Warehouse and was checking out a little floral number by Brooks. LOL! I love the beautiful pics on this post albeit they look COLD!!! I hope you have a great race this weekend as well as comfy racing weather! :-)

Enjoy the half. Mine is coming up in 3 weeks and my goals will be very similar. Hope you get a good time, and no 10 min miles!

Ahhh, no skirt purchase yet. I am pacing myself and exploring all of the available options before I make the final decision. :-) Half the fun is "the looking" part. Plus, with winter (non-skirt-wearing weather), my vast stable of current skirts will look brand new once it start to warm up. :-)

Good luck! Those are good goals. With such a beautiful view, it would a shame to not enjoy it. And way to go on the swimming!

Glad you are improving with swimming. Have you ever tried to swim in the sea? I am planning something about it (I mean long distance races).
Good luck for the half and I hope to read that you have broken the 2 hours wall!

Let us know how the swim group works out, it is always good to have "new eyes" access your swimming. Your race sounds like it'll be awesome and you are a speedy speedster! Good Luck and have fun.
