Three Things Thursday plus an extra

1. No running today because I didn't have a spare minute.  I taught school all day as usual. Then the kiddies went home.  I came in from bus duty which wasn't too bad because spring is on it's way!!! But once I am inside I barely have time to go to the bathroom before organizing my thoughts as the parents are coming!  It was the first half of parent conferences. It is hard to be at your best after a full day of school but I am sure I wowed all the parents with my insightful comments about their children!  (Not!)  Truly though it could have been worse.  I had many wonderful things to say and no one seemed to be thinking I have ruined their child's life, spoiling his/her chances to get into (insert college of your choice here) at the  age of 9. But perhaps that is going to happen tomorrow when we finish conferences!

2. I'm reading about everyone's races and wishing I had a race THIS weekend!  Good luck and have fun to everyone racing out there. Can't wait to read your race reports!

3. I have to say that I think the foam roller and a tennis ball are the best things going. Before my half marathon I had the beginning of two injuries.  My right hip flexor was very sore and my piriformis was rearing it's ugly head.  First I started using the tennis ball for my piriformis. Talk about a cheap low tech solution. I don't know if it would work for everyone but boy did it work for me.  My injury was the worst it had been since I went regularly to a chiropractor for ART.  A few days with the tennis ball and it's just fine.  I also purchased a foam roller, not cheap but by no means prohibitive. I have been using it for my hip flexor and IT Band.  I didn't realize how tight my IT Band was.  When I first started using the foam roller, OUCH!  I could hardly not really make it to ten.  Now, no problem whatsoever. So I have incorporated both of these into my early morning stretches. Let's hope they help to keep me running injury free!

Extra - Bailey and her new guy are the best thing to happen to Grey's Anatomy in quite awhile!

I was just thinking I need to try the tennis ball for minor aches and pains...my sister, the acupuncturist, suggested it for my hamstring.
I'm sure the parent meeting will go great tomorrow...how can you not be an amazing teacher :)

My life has been crazy too!! I am trying to rmember what I was like at nine:) I was a chatty Kathy...I would of drove you nuts:) I was kind and a basically a good kid, however, I talked way to much:) My poor mother had to listen to...Julie talks to much with her neighbors! I am sure that you are a great teacher and your students love you:)

I really need to invest in one of those foam rollers too!! I have heard nothing but good things about them. Good luck tomorrow!!

Bailey is and has been one of my favorite characters on Grey's. It is a nice storyline that they have going with her. I loved the recent episode of her as an intern with her dreads and glasses, it was funny!!

My PT gave me two tennis balls taped together so I could massage my achilles. I need to do apost about it.

I also need to invest in a roller. They are so dang expensive though.

Thanks for the kind comments on my post today :)

Thanks for the idea - I am going to try the tennis ball for my sore hip - nothing else seems to help, so what could it hurt?

Good luck with the teacher-parent conferences!

I love using the tennis ball for my feet. Luckily I don't need it for anything else at the moment. My son is 9 today. I'll be eating some cake and ice cream for sure. Have a good weekend!

I never thought about using a tennis ball. I have a bunch of them sitting around. Totally going to put them to good use!

I love my foam roller and I could be the poster girl for ART- I love it!

I don't watch Grey's, but my mom does and I walked through when they were on screen. That guy is SMOKING hot!

Love Grey's and Bailey. Hmm you know I lots of tennis balls and have no idea how to use them for my hip & knee aches & pains. Do you have a good website that will help?

I had a HORRIBLE bout of Piriformis last year---while the tennis ball hurts like a mo fo, it feels so good when you're done.

Parent conferences, my dad just finished his up---he's retiring this June so every one of these routine things is the last for him and I'm pretty sure he is loving life.

I have not watched Grey's Anatomy in forever. I guess I should change that now!

I don't know how teachers do it...you inspire me.

Amen to the tennis ball! My feet are so much better because of it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my foam roller. I need to get a stick too. I hear what you say about being busy. Although I am no allowed to run I still haven't found time to go to the gym and bike. I guess thats why there are weekends.

I don't watch GA but that Baily looks like she's going to stir up quite the drama - sweet!!

Gotta love the foam roller and tennis ball...who'd have known this years ago - we could have made a fortune!

Have a great weekend!!!

I hope you can keep the pain and injuries at bay. I usually don't watch Grey's until the weekend...can't wait!

Oh man, I have so much sympathy for teachers - you guys are rockstars :)
Love, love the foam roller but lately I have been using the rolling pin - my husband loves watching me squirm in pain as does it!

I keep adding things to the List of things to get this weekend; Foam Roller, Tennis Ball..
I NEVER watch Greys, but I actually caught it last night and I did enjoy that story line.

I'm sure you were helpful, eloquent and insightful regarding everyone's precious little one during the conferences. It is SO exhausting to keep up the energy level after school and by today, I was toast. GOOD LUCK with the rest of your conferences and I wish you had a race too...it would be a good stress relief!
BTW, my foam roller is my running lifesaver. I don't think I would still be running if it wasn't for my FR!
Have a nice weekend!
