First Run 2013

Oh my.  I am slow these days.  Oh well.  I need to work on it or not complain.

Pros of First Run:
I ran it with my husband.
I love starting out the New Year with a race.
It was cold but not unbearable.
It was slushy but not too slippery.
My time improved by the end.
Mile 1: 9:31
Mile 2: 9:52
Mile 3: 9:03
.1 8:24
The winners of the prizes are listed on the wall when you finish. You just pick them up, no long drawn out drawing of tickets with many people not being there.
You see lots of racers you know.
I was racing.
I got to see Jaxon when I was done.

Cons of First Run:

I was slow.
I didn't win a random prize.
I went out too slowly and took a long time to pick it up.
I barely kept my time under 30 minutes.
We look a little gruff. I hate to ask people to retake pictures
so I said it was fine.
I never never worked so hard to be under 30 minutes.

Look who I got to see afterwards!

Ah, but starting out the year with a race... ;) You have all year to get faster!

You'll have a great year!

As they say: you're lapping those on the couch. And your time is fast to me these days. But at least we're running.

Sounds like you had a fun time. Nice to share the run with your hubby. I convinced my wife to train for a 8+ mile race. She is actually enjoying her training. She will walk jog.

Have a great year. I am lookong forward to your posts. It is nice to see us older folks pursuing an active lifestyle.

What a great way to star the year! Way to fight for that sub-30!

Sweet puppy.

I just hope to one day get sub 30...it seems like it's never going to happen. I almost made it a 2013 goal, but it feels too far out of reach at this point.

Nice start to the year! I wouldn't worry too much about your time. You have plenty of good reasons for a slower than usual time, heavy clothing, slushy conditions, holiday eating, etc. :-)

I'm trying not to complain about my slowness too. I just have to be grateful to be running. I like your matching outfits.

You've already met my running goal for the year... Run one 5k :)

That 'gruff' pic reminds me of American Gothic. I kind of like it. Happy New Year!

Nice job on the race--you ran a negative split! Love the "stern" pic of you and hubby.
Found this on Amazon and couldn't resist sharing (sorry, once a nosy journalist, always a nosy journalist).
Happy, happy New Year!

Best way to start out the New Year with a little race (not that I did or anything ;), but I would have liked to!). Eh, it's winter, it's cold...times are going to be slower. Besides, if you set the bar too high early on, then you just have to work twice as hard later! :)

Love the gruff pic!

No prize? The fix was in!

I won a prize last year, I think it was the only prize I have won at a race. I got my stuff but got a DNS as I can't breathe well.

What a beautiful way to start the New Year by running a race. Glad you enjoyed it although it was cold and slushy.

You'll get your speed back. You raced, you did it with your husband and to me you did it in a great time!

About WW: I do it online, don't go to meetings, don't want to spend an evening a week on that.

Happy New Year!

I heard from a few people that it was cold and slushy- not ideal for keeping the pace up so awedome job!
I like the stern picture of the two of you, it appears that you take no crap from anyone :-)
Congrats on getting in the first race of 2013 (and I bet you got an awesome medal- theirs are usually pretty!)

I'd say the pros outweigh the cons. Seeing Jaxon at the end more than makes up for any con.
