Dear Heel

Dear Heel,

Can't we meet halfway?  I am doing everything I can for you.

I STOPPED RUNNING! Do you get what a big deal this is?  I will repeat.  I HAVE STOPPED RUNNING!

I am wearing that hideous boot to bed each night.  I am wearing supportive shoes all.the.time!  I don't go barefoot. I am not wearing my beloved Keens.  I roll you around on a golf ball, a tennis ball and a frozen water bottle.  I am doing my stretches as often as I can.  I now own a pair of orthotics that I have resisted for years. I am breaking them in gradually just as I was told.  I am doing the strengthening exercises I was shown.

I AM NOT RUNNING!  Do you get this?

So heel do your part and please heel!

Sincerely,
AJH

Hey, I was doing all of this and Physical Therapy finally did the trick for me with deep tissue massage. I guess you don't have to go to PT to get this done though. That was my experience though.

C'mon heel, help a girl out! she's been doing her part, meet her half way!
Hang in there, it will get better!

You have my utmost sympathy on this one. I sure hope you're up and running soon! And in the meantime, enjoy your bike rides - do we see a triathlon in your future????

Oh no! I'm so sorry to read this! I am frustrated for you--wow it's a tough training cycle for so many. Hang in there girlfriend, this too shall pass. Hugs!

Mr Heel better listen to you! Maybe you are being just too nice to him? :)
I had to wear a boot for my Mr Achilles. In the middle of the night I just had to pull it off, sometimes without even waking up.
I hope you heal soon. Not running sucks big time.

I really, really feel for you! I know how bad it sucks to want to run but can't! You have to take time off and let your body mend itself.

Take care of yourself! Sending you love and hugs from Minnesota:) Stay positive and keep smiling!

Mine's been hurting all day ... and I've done NOTHING!!! Nothing but eat a gallon of frozen yogurt cuz I'm so flipping PO'd at it!!! So I totally hear your frustrations. Maybe you and I should start a heel haters club?? We just vent and get angry at it and then eat gallons of ice cream after. Almost 2.5 weeks I haven't run and it's no better than it was when I was running. Of course, I still have yet to go to the doctor, which is frustrating in itself (ARGHHHH to Insurance!!!) and now I'm convinced they're going to tell me, whenever I can go to the doctor, to not do anything for an entire year.

Ok, sending quick healing vibes to your heel - if I can't get mine to be happy, I want at least yours to be!!

((HUGS))

Such a great post. I am sad for you. I'm writing my own letter to YOUR heel right now. [in a little meaner tone].

Feel better soon. I have quite a few friends with PF. Rest seems to work the best.

I'm so sorry that you are in so much pain with your heel. This has to be very hard for you to step back from your running. Hang in there!

Clearly your heel and my calves are friends. We must make it stop!

Ouch. I hope your heel listens and ...what about the Wine Glass MArathon? any hopes? I'm running it as well. It will be my first.

Get it in gear heel!! You are not making any friends with this behavior. Don't make me have to fly over from SC...

Hang in there!

Ouch - even your cross-section diagram looks sore. Hope your healing is quick and permanent.

Ugh, that sucks. I'm assuming you've seen someone (if not multiple someones) about this. PT might be worth a try. I hope it heals up soon. Sounds like you are doing everything right and may just have to wait a bit longer. ((HUGS))

Hang in there!
And that heel better listen and cooperate.

HI AJH,
So my heel injury is a stress fracture of the calcaneus bone - walking boot for 8 weeks. This is way different than PF. I have been aqua jogging in the pool with a special buoyancy belt you can get a sporting goods store. It is actually a very good workout and every runner I've talked to said they did not lose their fitness level.
