Connecticut Running

Connecticut Running

I did two runs while in Connecticut.  I live in a hilly town on the side of a mountain but man is K's town hilly.  If I ran it all the time I would be in great shape for hills.  It also has much more serious traffic than my town.  I did not repeat my Saturday run on Monday because I figured too many drivers heading to work not looking out for AJH from Vermont could be dangerous.  There are probably people who see me running there each year who feel badly because I give running a try for a few days each year and then I quit.

Looking UP at K's house.

This hill turns a corner and goes on and on.

One thing about running at K's is all the streets in the various neighborhoods look alike.  There are all these short streets.  I always carry my phone because  I have gotten lost and had to call K.  I read her the street sign and she tells me which way to head.  I know the route I took Saturday but on Monday I took some completely new streets.  I must be getting more familiar with it because I did just fine and had no back tracking.
One time when running here I knew I needed to
turn by the house with the wire fence.

But there are a lot of houses on corners with wire fences.

The lion is a better reminder that it is time to turn.

There are new street names in every direction.

When I ran on Monday morning there was a sight that just made my day. I saw several of them and they had nothing to do with me!

And of course..........
A REMINDER PLEASE
Can you vote for Emily (my daughter)  from Sweat Once A Day so she can win some financing for her trip home for the National Tris? Here is the link.  I am shamelessly sending this by email to many of my friends.  You can vote once a day for a month. Feel free to do that!  If you go to the link her picture is on different pages at various times.  Click on her picture and under her bio is the place to click to vote.  Thanks!

That sounds like a challenging place to run. Glad you at least got out there.

One time I got so lost when I was visiting a friend and out for a run...but yeah, I'm a bit map challenged ;).

I saw Emily also got into the Nuun HTC relay. Way to go!!

I get lost running all the time. I have zero sense of direction.

I voted! Keep reminding us 'cause I'm happy to do it every day, but I've got the memory of a gnat...

That's the scariest thing about running in a new area - getting lost. Easy to do when you've got a sense of direction like mine. I usually map my self a route and carry my little map with me or I stay on the main road and don't turn much. The phone sounds like a much better idea - especially if it's a smart phone with maps on it.

That looks like the perfect place for me to do my Ragnar training. Bring on the hills!

I also saw the Emily made the Nuun HTC relay team. Congrats to her!

I can practically get lost in my own neighborhood so I probably wouldn't do well there.

Good luck to Emily. I will vote.

Looks like a nice route to run. K's house is beautiful.
Since I picked up running I discovered new roads where I live :) If I want to try a new route I always drive or bike it first to see if it's correct otherwise I would get lost too in my own neighbourhood :)

It's great to run in different areas for a change. I love the idea that people might think you take up and give up running for a few days each year!

Thanks for the reminder - voted again!
Thank goodness for cell phones - I often wonder how we coped without them!

Great pics! I keep voting for Em. Since blogger won't let me respond on my own post. I just finished reading The Other Boylen GIrl. I LOVED it! My favorite beer is Blue Moon or Labatts Blue Light Lime. Basin Harbor was good, not as busy as usual.

I'm quite good with direction but running in a strange neighborhood can be challenging. My son jumped up and down when he saw the school bus in your photo. He is very impressed that you saw a real yellow school bus. We don't have that here but you know how they always feature in the movies. He associates them with the movies so you are now very popular.

While running uphill, remember to turn by the house with a fence with neatly trimmed yard and nice tall trees... Oh wait, they all look like that :-)) Have fun - don't get too lost!

Yay for the school bus! BW so wants to ride one and they offer one for the preschool here b/c we are considered rural, but Mama won't have it since all grades ride together.

And, yes, CT is hilly. Dad Wonder is from there and my daily grind was running to the DD which was downhill, but running back was all uphill!

Voted!

I am so directionally challenged, I would definitely get lost! Glad you had some fun exploring on foot.

Had to laugh at the locals thinking you take up running for a couple of days each year, hehehe.
