Biking/Running/Wicked/Rainbows

It's been a great weekend and there is yet another day to come!  Who doesn't love three day weekends?

Saturday I was up bright and early - actually had to wait for it to get light out and then took off on my bike.  I had a great 12 mile ride on my favorite route.  It was sunny for most of it although a little cool.  I haven't figured out the whole dressing when it is cold thing on the bike.  You don't quite warm up in the same fashion you do running - at least I don't.  When I was on my wonderful "canopied" road for some reason I started thinking about bears.  It isn't absurd because it is heavily wooded and not crowded.  I am sure I started thinking about them because I was alone but I saw no bear.  Instead I came upon about 5 turkeys who were not particularly thrilled to see me and quickly headed into the woods!

When I got home I quickly changed and headed into school to tie up some loose ends before Tuesday. Then I headed to Boston with my friend H who was taking me to see Wicked for my birthday!  How great was that!  We got there in good time, checked into a hotel and headed on the train into Boston.  We had time to go to Quincy Market where I had a delicious bread bowl of clam chowder. We also watched some street performers and enjoyed the atmosphere before we headed to the theater. It was a perfect night for walking around, a beautiful breeze after our unrelenting heat this week.  I can't say enough about how outstanding this show was!  I still have the songs going through my head. It is one I would go back to!  Today we took our time driving back, doing a little shopping on the way.  I got a new toy, a gorilla pod, which I will write more about later.  H was very nice to listen to me go on and on about my 100 on 100 race.  I showed her where I had run my second legs both this year and last year as we travelled down Route 100.  I was equally patient with her as she explained all the characters and guest stars on Glee to me because that  is what friends do!
Yummy Clam Chowder

When I got home I had planned to go for a bike ride. I did not want to go!  The idea of reading, watching West Wing, eating, sleeping, almost anything was more appealing.  But there is nothing wrong with my exercise ethic so off I went.  I decided that I would do my minimum number of miles (10) with no guilt.  It did start raining as I was riding but not pouring.  Eventually though I did start thinking about how I wrecked my Ipod in the rain so I put my camera in my bike bag, not just my waist pack.  I had bought myself a gorilla pod (my newest toy) and that was part of the motivation for my ride. I wanted to try to use it with the self timer. But when I was at the place I had wanted to stop the rain was too  heavy. Then the rain slowed down and the sun was out so I stopped and looked for a rainbow. It was BEAUTIFUL!  Okay now it was time to play with the gorilla pod. I was right in the center of town and looked a bit like an idiot but I didn't care. It is harder on a bike to set the camera, turn around and ride back toward it than it is while running.  I must say though I was having quite a good time doing this!  The pictures I got don't show the rainbow that well but it really made my ride. It turned a ride that was good into a great one!
Beautiful double rainbows

Trying to get myself in the picture with the rainbow in the
background. I got a lot of guardrail!  I need more practice
with my new toy!

Hurrying to get in the picture - first shot goes off as I am
turning around!

Okay I make it into the second shot, not quite where I want to be but I am there.

This is where my bike lives - with the tractors and lawn mowers!

My chiropractor and I have mutually agreed that I will take a couple of weeks off from running and then reassess.   I am not healing fast enough. He is also going to send me to a physical therapist to strengthen muscles.  I actually feel encouraged to try something new plus there is absolutely improvement.  Just not enough for running.  If I didn't have my marathon coming I would feel better about it all.  I haven't completely let go of the idea of being in the marathon but I need to.  I have never gone into a marathon not fully trained.  To go into this one with the training I have had would be foolish.  The good part would be if I could do some fall races I might otherwise not. There are two races in the next two weekends that I love.  Oh well.  Better to get better to race in the future than never. Right?

I have noticed that I have lost a couple of followers.  What is that about?  Am I too boring? Do I not stick to running enough?  I feel I do a great job commenting on blogs of people who comment on mine so that can't be it.  Oh well.  I have all I can do keeping up with the blogs I follow.  Perhaps others are cutting down to keep it all in check!

Oh, how I love Quincy Market! That "chowdah" pic is making me drool!
What a bummer that your healing isn't moving along quicker, but you have such a terrific attitude about it. How nice to have the opportunity to run something new.
As for losing followers, I have no clue why - I love reading your blog!

What a great birthday present! Love the self-timer pics :) ...you are definitely keeping your cardio strong with all that biking too.

I don't get the lost followers...I LOVE your blog! I know some of my followers are there because of giveaways and I wouldn't be surprised if they were temporary.

I'm too tired to do anything other than skim posts at the moment, but I DID take note of the clam chowder. *Drool*

Hmmm, I don't know why anyone would stop following. Did they perhaps cancel their blogger accounts or something?

I miss Boston but then I love living in CA. Could we move New England closer to the West Coast?
Hope you will heal fast. It can be terribly frustrating not being able to run. Trust me, I know.
Hope this Monday is as great as the rest of your Labor Day Weekend.

It stinks to not be able to run. I hope you'll get to feeling better soon.

The chowder looks delish! Yum! Hot chowder, cool temperatures = perfect!

Love the double rainbow. What a pretty sight. It is beauty like that that makes me keep going out to run/walk. You'll never know what nature decides to reveal to us.

I keep humming 'Defying Gravity' since reading your post. Sounds like you had an amazing weekend.

Hey! Thanks for the kind words on my blog! I think you probably lost "Followers" because people realize they have too many blogs to comment on, so they cut back. I don't take it personally when it happens to me. I know the true friends and followers stick around no matter what. I'm glad that you and others commented on my "pity party" post. Sorry to see you're also not running, but glad to see you have a better attitude about it than I do..LOL. I think I'm going to dust the cobwebs off of my bike and start riding again. I LOVE where your bike is stored-that's a classic pic. Thanks for making me feel better. Hugs!! :-)

I've always wanted to see Wicked and this makes me want to more! Great pics and rainbow. Sorry to hear about the time off from running, but whatever gets you feeling better is the way to go!! ;)

Great rainbow - that sure made the ride worth it! And I hope the new approach to your rehab ends up with good results...keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Sounds like you are having a great Labor Day weekend :) Enjoy what's left of your time :) PS...gave you an award on my blog. Stop by and check it out!

I'm just glad you can bike and you enjoy it. Great job with those photos! I love where your bike lives. I don't bother about followers anymore. I follow and comment on blogs I enjoy reading. It is difficult to keep up. I can't do giveaways or enter any for that matter because I'm in SA. So I just do my thing and appreciate the followers and people that comment.

Awesome job on your photo taking session! You are WAY better than me - I can't do the self timer thing very well. Steve is a pro, though, thankfully. I know your frustration with not being able to run. I am having a little of that myself right now, although at this point, I am still able to run, just not way I want to. But you know what? We need to be thankful we can still get out and do stuff - you have a bike and are able to stay fit. In spite of, we are still blessed, just encountering a few bumps in the road. Don't fret about the blog thing - I know for me, I get busy with other things and just don't have time some days (or week!) to check in on everyone. But then I come back, go on a terror, and get caught up. Whew! It is so interesting to read about people from all over the country and world. The blog world is awesome though - we have gotten to meet some fabulous people, like you! And you do a great job - keep it up! Have a fantastic week!

There are plenty of snakes here in Australia. We have some of the most venomous in the world. New Zealand is the country without snakes and that's about 3 hours flight from here.

Great rainbows! I like your little notes about the bike photos and that one with the tractors, too! Yes, better not to injure yourself so that you can't continue to run lots of miles again soon. Happy birthday!

Wow, that picture of the rainbow was amazing. It was like a postcard. The area where you live looks really neat. Soooooo East Coast. BTW, sorry about the Marathon, but I think you make the right decision.

Lovely weekend you've had Andrea. I love the pic of the rainbows. Everytime it rains and the sun is out I hurry outside to see if I can spot a rainbow, love them.

I'm still your follower no worries about that. I might not comment the same day you've posted but I always read your blog. You're definitely not boring.

By the way, I think it's wise to cut back on the running for now. Better to heal a 100% and then give it your 100% than risk another or longer injury.

Double rainbows are my favorites :)

Great photos! I have never seen a double rainbow in real life. LOL about all the guardrail :)

As for followers, I've noticed before when my number drops a few but never thought much of it. You aren't boring and like marathonman said, true friends will stick around.

Hope a few weeks off from running make you feel better!

I saw Wicked in January, great show, and great gift!

Sorry about what's going on with your foot, but I think you're doing the right thing.

And the follower thing...sometimes I think people just follow for a giveaway, because whenever I post a winner, I lose some followers that same day!

You are becoming quite the photographer :). My daughter loves loves loves to take pictures and it always criticizing my photo skills, or lack thereof. Hehe. I think you're smart to take a couple weeks off - I am going to do the same. My knee is now killing me (ARGHHHH). So I'm going to swim this week, I think. I like where your bike rests, I SO need a trip to Vermont, it is just exactly as I picture it in my head. I want a barn in my backyard :). Have a great week!!!

LOVED Wicked!! It played here in SF for a long time and I got to see it twice! SO worth it!

You are so tallented with the camera! I love your dedication to get us some good pics - I need to work on that!

As for the loss of followers- chalk it up as their loss, NOT yours. I LOVE to read your blog, I love to hear about your teaching and all the fun adventures you go on! I'm still here! Have a great week!
