Getting Ready for Some Ocean Riding

I kept waiting for it to warm up today so I could go for a bike ride.

And waiting.

And waiting.

And waiting.

It was a gorgeous sunny day but it wasn't warming up.  I finally decided to just go for it but I was going elsewhere to ride.  When I left my house the temperature was 33 degrees and not moving. But when I got to Middlebury it was almost 10 degrees warmer.  I had lots of clothes on.  I had on my biking shorts with pants over them and 3 layers on top.  My sweatshirt and jacket both zipped up tight around my neck.  I wore a headband under my helmet.  I didn't have my toe things on my shoes but I would not have been too hot with them.

You know that it isn't very warm when you are happier going up hills than down!  But it wasn't that bad. The wind was considerably less than yesterday and even though it was cool I never had that thoroughly chilled feeling.  I went about 21 miles and by the time I was done it felt a little warmer.  I think it was up to 46 degrees.  I had to laugh when I saw runners and how differently they were dressed. I saw one girl in shorts and a tank top.

The scenery was beautiful. This felt like a good test so I know what I need to wear at the ocean this week. The prediction isn't calling for very warm weather (or totally dry) so I wondered what would be reasonable to ride in. If it's not too windy I can definitely do 40s.

I didn't take many pictures and the ones I did take will look familiar from past summers.

In the morning I plan to get up early, go swimming and then head to the ocean!!!

Ah, you got the road bike out! You are looking bright and cheerful in your pretty pink jacket. I like! A good ride sounds splendifidous - in fact, if it doesn't snow tomorrow morning, we too are planning a nice ride. Your are right - too much below 40 degrees gets a little chilly for a ride but it's all good. :-)

That's pretty cold. Must make it hard to bend your knees when you have so many layers on.

Enjoy your time at the ocean! That is a great bike (I know you've had it a while now, but it's really cool). Well dressed - we northerners can take the chill :) Although after my half marathon next weekend, I leave for Sanibel Island, Florida for a week of rest and relaxation!

I've been waiting to ride outside too. I have had a brand new bike for 3 weeks and it's still on the trainer. I think secretly I'm using the weather as an excuse because I'm kind of afraid to get out there on it. I need to just make a move.
