I PIcked the Wrong Race!!!!!!

I signed up for the race I am "doing" this weekend in NH months ago.  It was to be a fun weekend with people from work.  That part of it is still true although two of the original participants are not coming but there are two others in their place.  It will be good to get away with friends from work, two of whom I have never travelled with before. One is my biking friend, C, who is game for any bike ride but frowns upon running.  One is S who is filling in at my school for a teacher who is home with a new baby. I will hate to see her leave when the time comes.  The other person going is my friend, H, who often travels with me.  We will shop, eat, race, sightsee, spend time at the beach and perhaps do a little work gossiping.

So it all sounds just great, right?

Well, no because I am an idiot of the first order. I am the one who planned this and scheduled the weekend. I picked out the race which is a good one. I have done it before and it is well organized and scenic, not too far away and on the ocean. YEAH.

BUT.

The same weekend as this race, just up the coast in Maine, there are two races that sound much better because guess who might be at them?

Let me refer you back to a couple of my posts to help you guess.
Now what I want to know is why was PD claiming to want to see me when he didn't even mention these fall races to me?

First the run on Saturday:

Saturday, October 8

8 a.m.
L.L.Bean 10K Run/Walk with Official Starter, Patrick Dempsey
8:20 a.m.
L.L.Bean 5K Run/Walk with Official Starter, Patrick Dempsey
8:30 am – Noon
Hannaford 5 & 10K Café (participants only) featuring made-to-order omelets, vegetarian chili, scones, cornbread, fruit and pizza!
10 a.m.
Amgen Breakaway from Cancer Survivor Walk
10:30 a.m.
‘Thank You’ from Patrick Dempsey (entertainment stage) (I'm sure he'd want me standing up there next to him.)

Then the bike ride on Sunday.
Fundraising Rides presented by Exergy Development Group: Released in waves: 100-mile, 70-mile, 50-mile, 25-mile and 10-mile (Look at all the great choices. I would go for the 70 maybe but if Kate was here participating she is such a hard core athlete she would probably ask to do her own private 150 mile route.  PD would be impressed and like her best.)
8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Festival in the Park including Concentra Health and Wellness Expo, Vendor Fair, TD Bank Positive Tracks KidZone, Gritty McDuffs Tent, Concessions, The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing tent, Massage & Reiki Tent, live entertainment, Lobster Trap (participants only), health screenings, fitness equipment demos, the Prevent Cancer Super Colon and more!
10:30 a.m. – the last rider!
Lobster Trap (participants only) traditional Maine lobster bake. Chicken and veggie burgers available.
3:30 p.m.
Closing ceremonies led by Patrick Dempsey (entertainment stage) (He's probably riding with them. I could be riding bikes with PD.  I repeat. I could be riding bikes with PD.)

So who was the genius who picked out the race for this coming weekend?

Ok All I can say is "You blew it." Seriously, I am free. Hpw far is Albany to Freeport, ME? Let's do this one next year together!

You are so funny. Kate would be on her hybrid or mountain bike bc she is STILL too stupid to get her road bike fixed. But...ahhh...to ride with PD...of course if he was anywhere near me I'd get all distracted and run off the road. Boo for the timing, for sure.

I'm already about schedule conflicts for next year. Too much good stuff to do...

That sucks....maybe you could talk your friends in to switching races.

How can you pass up a brush with celebrity? Surely they would understand :)

Why didn't he email you and tell you he'd be in the area? Not terribly thoughtful is he?!

Is this the same Patrick Dempsey from those semi-bad, but not terrible, 80's movies?

Oh nooooooooooo an opportunity to meet McDreamy? You know what I would do ... :)

Here's an idea: you bike to McDreamy very fast in the morning, make his day then bike back very fast and do the bike ride with your friends LOL.
