My Inner Sloth - Taper Time

The weather around here is more of the same but it is improving. We did NOT get all the snow they predicted on Friday plus in April - it doesn't hang around.  But I still needed to wear two layers, hat or headband, gloves etc.  I am really looking forward to a baseball cap and capris. I laughed today when T said the weather was so good yet the temp. was 27 degrees. So many of you would vehemently disagree. But it wasn't windy and the roads were dry.

Yesterday we ran 8 miles, the last longish run before the half next weekend.  If you read my post yesterday you know it wasn't a great one.  At all.  Seeing new snow didn't help.
Turning at the half way point on our 8 mile run. As you
can see there is plenty of snow.

Today though we had to do a pace run, only 3 miles and it was GREAT.  I felt good, I could push it, yeah, the temperature was perfect and life was ever so good.  We were going for a 9:30 pace but hit 9:19!  Go AJH and T!  We only went 4 miles total so I was back home with lots of time to do all those things I save for Sundays.

.
Almost done! More bare ground today.

And yes! We are done! Looking at this
pic I am also ready to start wearing some color.
We look like we are trying out for a cat
burglar role.

This week the taper continues. I know a lot of bloggers out there don't like to taper. Me - I do! Perhaps I am naturally a lazy person and this gives me an excuse to embrace my inner sloth.  It gives me some extra time to get more done at work as I am not spending as much time working out.  Most important it makes me feel like I will be ready for the half on Saturday, which is just how I need to feel.

I have been exchanging e mails that may deliver me a bib for the two person relay of the VCM.  I posted on the transfer board.  But my original partner can't race so I am not sure who I will race with if I get the bib. I'll worry about that later. Perhaps the person selling the bib changed his mind as there has been no reply since early morning. May is looking like a busy month with a half in the beginning of the month, two 5Ks, perhaps a team race and then the VCM relay if I get a bib.

Have a good running/biking/swimming/lazing around week- whatever is in the cards for you.

I love taper time. I am a sloth at heart too and love to relax and start planning for race day, the only I have to do is be more careful about what I eat. Have fun with it and cheers!

Running in the conditions you have this winter? Not a sloth by any means. Enjoy your WELL DESERVED rest.

(BTW, saw the first two snakes of the year but they objected to having their picture taken - sorry!!)

Beautiful pictures, as always! Even with the snow, Vermont is beautiful. Hope everything becomes GREEN soon! :)

Your outfit cracks me up. Your outfit looks just like my winter running outfit. I prefer the term "ninja" to "cat burglar", though. :)

I enjoy the taper as well. Rest weeks are lovely.

That would be a great idea for a race theme - the cat burglar 5K! A little bit of sunshine makes things look so much better in your pictures. Enjoy your taper and hopefully lots more sunshine and warmer temps...

I like taper only if I still run every day. I'm a very "active rest" type person. Enjoy your taper and have a great week!

My last long run is 8 days before my first half, after that it's 3 short runs till the big day. Don't know if that's called taper? I didn't plan much running in the week after my first half.

Enjoy your taper.

Yes, dry roads are a necessity for no broken bones!! :) Glad it's starting to warm up for you some. It was 83 here on Saturday and I got a sunburn riding my bike but yesterday we got 3" of snow. Typical springtime in the Rockies.

Enjoy that taper - yay!!!

We had the dreaded snow, too, but much less, a gorgeous weekend and now...3 days of rain. Blah! Enjoy the taper. I am a true believer in a good taper for any type of race.
My son is 5. I'll keep that book in mind for a bit later. He is into all things technical - so not me:)

Sometimes I think that snow in April would be better than incessant gray and rain that we get here in the NW.

Enjoy taper!!!!!! I've never had a problem with taper either =).

Crazy when 27 with no wind is considered "good"! I'm so anxious for summer that I'm practically in shorts in 27 degrees in the spring and then in the fall, I'm in tights at 50 degrees. Crazy mind!

Hope your taper is going well! Can't wait to hear about the race:)

You two look like running Ninjas, I love it!
I'm one of those people who does NOT like tapering and it takes a lot to keep me from getting out there and running so I'm forcing myself to garden and do other things to distract me. Suddenly, I'm imagining that my foot is hurting again. Or is it really hurting? Ahhhh!!! That's the kind of stuff that happens to me during tapering!
Really, you all deserve some warmth!
I hope school is going well and that the issue has calmed down a bit, thinking of you!
