Twice a Day

Yesterday I ran twice.  Both runs were fairly short which I may need to change in the coming weeks. I want to start getting a little prepared for my 100 on 100 race at the end of August.  It is a relay made up of 6 runners in our case.  We each run 3 different legs of varying lengths.  I was a bit surprised last year at how different it felt to run 18 miles in 3 segments rather than all at once.  I had a very difficult time with the middle segment in the heat of the day.  So I am going to run twice a day at least once a week and I  hope to get in one practice day with 3 runs which I did not do last year.

I thought my evening run was going to be awful as I am an early morning runner when not working.  It turned out to be much better than my earlier run with more energy and a better pace. Go figure.  I waited until 7 or so and it was not hot or humid which certainly helped! This morning I ran 8 and I can't say  much about it other than I did it.  Tomorrow I am not going to run and hopefully with weather cooperating I will do 18 miles on Thursday. I am hoping the extra "rest" day due to the two runs yesterday will help with the healing heel.

Sadly I will not be racing this weekend unless I stumble across some race close to home.  My husband can't go to recycling and it is way past my turn to go.  Our recycling center is  open one morning a week so there aren't a lot of options!  I have had a little bit of  a racing streak going and I would love to continue it but I don't see it happening.

I have not signed up for other races yet in August but there is a race in New York where you race a train that intrigues me. I would like to talk someone into doing this with me but that is unlikely.  Anyone out there doing it?

Smart of you to plan to do a morning and night run. I can only image it being difficult to psych yourself up to go run again, but obviously you had no issues! great job

Recycling really needs to be made easier to do, not harder!
Good job on your runs. Racing against a train?! I've heard of racing against horses, but not trains before!

I think it would so fun to run in a relay. You are so smart to run your long runs in three part segments. You are still logging the miles and you have a little time inbetween to recharge:) God, I wish I was still training like you:(

Race the Train! OMG! I sooooo want to run that race! Its way up in North Creek. Nice place for whitewater rafting and visiting the (over-priced) garnet mine.

Sadly, I've got something that weekend. I would totally run it. Maybe next year?

Race the train? Cool!
I ran twice in 1 day once last week. It was kinda fun. It was great for logging the miles. :)

Race the train must be very cool. I would do it if I were you. We never have "fun" races here in Holland except for some ladies runs.

Good idea to break up your runs in running twice a day so you can get used to it. I'm definitely a morning runner, I run much better than when I run in the afternoon or evening.

The idea to run twice a day as part of your reparation sounds good. Some years ago I did that once or twice a week. It helped me with pace as PM running generally gives you better pace with the same effort. I think it’s something with our internal clocks or metabolism that does that. You have to rest well when you do this though. We have a few train races here in SA. I love them because I’m a bit of a train fanatic.

Race the train is a cool one. I've never run it, but I've taken the train ride for various kid things (usually when Thomas the train engine visits) and it is beautiful! Keep going with the 2fers, they'll help you come relay time.

Great idea incorporating some double-days into your schedule in preparation for the relay. In many ways, I find it more tiring to run (for example) 5K in the morning and again in the evening than to run 10K continuous.

I love two-a-days :)

Racing a train sounds pretty cool and unusual - hope you find someone to do it with you!

I've never seen race the train! Looks like fun! As does your relay. I'm hoping to be a part of a team next year in a half ironman tri, I'll do the running part.

I did double days in prep for my back to back marathons followed by the relay and I can say for certain it really helped - good luck! And, I can also say that my second run of the day always was a ton better!
I would LOVE to race a train with you! Too bad we're not closer :(
Have a great week and good luck with the 18!

I already have a Saratoga race on Aug 7. I have taken that train several times. 2 of my husband's cousins are racing it. They are also doing a half in Manchester VT on 9-11.

Hope you do it. I want to hear about it.
