Three Things Thursday

When I began it was cloudy and pleasant out.

1.  :( :( :( I did an 18 mile run and it did not go the way I wanted.  I was going to take 3 pictures - before, the stop at the car and the end.  But in the end I only wanted to get in my car and go home.

The Good:

  • The weather was decent.  It started out cloudy and a good temp.  Even when the sun was out there was a constant breeze.  A lot of the run was in the shade.
  • As always the bike path was gorgeous.
  • I did all the miles scheduled.
  • The first 9 miles were pretty decent.
The Bad:
  • My heel started out hurting around Mile 10.
  • My heel hurt a lot the last 5 miles.
  • I did all the miles scheduled.
  • My pace was slow slow slow. Do I blame it on my heel pain or would I have been slow regardless?
  • I lost a lot of confidence on my last two long runs and wonder about the marathon in October.  Should I take some time off?  Will I be ready? Can I do it?
Back at the car to refresh my water bottles, put on more sunscreen and wish I was done

2.  We are going out to dinner tonight to celebrate our 27th anniversary!

3. I hate hate hate to see July come to an end as it means school is on the way.  Our rooms/curriculum/materials etc. don't magically get ready and a lot of hours in August are spent in the classroom. I hate to see my lazy crazy days of summer come to an end. So for now they won't.  Yes, I'll be in a lot in August but it won't start immediately!!

It's so frustrating when we want to have a good run and then something starts to hurt. You need to add one more item to your "good" list: you ran 18 miles today.

Happy Anniversary!

sorry about your heel, kudos for making the whole 18. Did it feel better once you stopped? I keep icing like crazy because I'm getting paranoid about injury at this stage of the game.

I was a teacher for many years and remember getting depressed on Aug 1...now I would love to have more than a few days off (esp since I've started running). Hope your heel gets better - 18 miles is fantastic!!!!!!!! Happy anniversary!

I am sorry about your heel. Can you take one week off at this point, to ice and rest your heel? It may help. You'll have a good run again! Happy Anniversary!!

Argh, I am so sorry your heel pain is being a pest, too! It's so hard to marathon train around that thing. I am giving you majic heal advice: Phiten. Someone gave me these litte disks which are suppose to have some sort of electromagnatistic powers and I plopped 3 on my heel before SF. Now it didn't feel overly joyous but it was a thousand times better than it was the week before. NO idea of it was this product or the fact I tried to run on the inside of my foot more, which kept it off the sore heel spot, but it may be worth a try. Google them and give it a try. I'm totally taking all running off until I can get into the doctor b/c this heel stuff is sooo aggravating and I'm not training around it anymore. Hoping for the best for you always!!! ((hugs)). And thanks for thinking of me in SF, I could feel your vides clear across the entire US :).

You hung in there and got your run in. Congrats on that. Also, super congrats on your anniversary. Have fun celebrating!!

Well 18 miles is a helluva lot of miles. And YOU did them. Congratulations for pushing through and finishing.

So sorry your heel is giving you trouble. October is still a good bit of time away. Maybe you should take a week or so off now and give whatever is going on with your heel time to resolve.

Congratulations on your anniversary. Wow, that's a long time!

Sorry about your heel. Running long distance is already a challenge and adding pain to it doesn't help.
I am feeling a case of blue. I love my summer (being able to run whenever I want to and sometimes 2x a day) and cannot imagine having to go back to work soon.

That is a bummer about your run. I don't know what to tell you except my sister always says that it is better to have a bad training run than a bad race day...hang in there, I'm sure you will get ready in time for the marathon.
BTW, I didn't get the Lost connection until you mentioned it in your comment - ha ha, how dense am I? Still love it, though. Am off to the library today to replenish my stash of books...

So sorry about the heal and the :(:(:( run. I hope you get it fixed and don't lose any training time, that is a real bummer! But the first two pics were spectacular. and Boo work. Boo!

Happy Anniversary!

Sorry to hear about your heel pain, hope it goes away soon. I'm not quite up to your mileage (15-ish) right now for me, but I had a couple bad runs a little while ago and took a couple of extra cross-training days and it made all the difference in the world for me. Happy Anniversary!

You did all the miles scheduled - good for you!

I would take this as an excellent LSD run for the October marathon. It is good time on the legs and helps with mental strength for pushing through when things aren’t great. Maybe you need an easy week to rest the body a bit. You’ll be strong and ready for October.

Take care of that heel! I too am really tired at this point of the training--good for you for getting the miles in.
July goes WAY too fast!

Happy Anniversary!! I would try to take some time off if you are having all that pain. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Sorry about the heel pain and tough run. Your feelings are normal at this stage of marathon training. Take some time to regroup, take care of that heel (how's the cushioning in your shoes?) and you'll find that spunk again!

I don't know where July went. I'm making an effort this year to not go in until the very last minute!
You have a beautiful running spot!

Sorry your run didn't go the way you wanted. But sometimes we need those runs to come back from! I know you will bounce back.
Congrats on your 27th anniversary!

OMG - I had a horrible long run as well. But pat your self on the back because I planned on 18 but couldn't step one step farther than 17.25 :(.
The weather started off as SUPER humid and 73 deg. at 4 AM. It actually got 5-8 deg cooler by my return home. Like you, my run was SO SLOW.... torturous!
But great going and I hope your foot gets better. That's a bummer.

Yikes, don't remind me it's almost August!! Actually, I've already started to think about it but that doesn't make it any easier. I just love sleeping in! Congrats on your anniversary, wow, 27 years! That is truly incredible, you deserve a nice dinner!
Regarding your run...it is normal to have a hard one every now and then and it DOES make you step back and slow down a little bit at this time in your training. It's still so early in your cycle, relax and take it easy! The training will come to you, no forcing it!

Whata a beautiful location to run. Hope you can resolve the heel issue. Looks like you have gotten some great advice here.

In answer to your question, I have the Forerunner 305. I love what it does, although it is super ugly and I don't like to wear it on my wrist as I find it heavy, awkward & it makes me very sweaty. I usually strap it onto my fuel belt, or carry it.

I am sorry that you had a tough run. The good news is that you finished your goal distance:)

Happy 27th Anniversary! Enjoy your weekend:)

Happy Anniversary!!

Really sorry about the heel pain...pain is never fun on a run...and always a little panicky :(

Hope it's nothing and good job getting the mileage done!

p.s. I thought I had "Heart of the Matter", but turns out it was one of the books that was out of the library :( ...now I really want to get it, so I have reserved it, I should get it soon.
