Give me 20 Below Anytime

Wow!  This heat is something else, not just for running and exercising but for living! I don't like the heat!  I would much rather have it cold out.  You can always get warmer but I find it harder to get cooler.  It takes more planning to run in the heat than it did this winter in the cold. My hat is off to those of you who run in these temps on a regular basis.

Tuesday I got up early and was running by 6 a.m.  That helped a lot. It was beginning to get hot by the time I had gone 7 miles but most of the run was fine. I had planned on Wed. to head to Burlington and run on the bike path but I decided time driving was time I could spend running at home when it was cooler.  I didn't want to get up earlier to get there earlier as the bike path is too deserted earlier and I don't feel as comfortable.

So I got up and was on the road by 5:40.  I had a 14 mile run to get in and I knew it was going to take me awhile. I must say I was never bothered by the heat but some of it must be due to my tired body and brain not registering it.  The first 6 miles or so were truly pleasant temp. wise.  I was along a tree covered dirt road for miles 9 + 10. This is also rather isolated and I did think about wildlife more than strange people.  (When I got home I did read on FB about a friend seeing a bear in her yard last night.) The last four miles were in the sun but I wasn't feeling it.  I drank everything I brought with me and stopped at the local church to refill my water bottles. This is also my bathroom stop but today I didn't have to use it which told me something about the heat!  When I did get home I was DEAD. I had done all 14 miles incredibly slowly but I had done them.  Now I am relaxing before I begin to pack because....................

.............Thursday I leave for Colorado!  I will be doing a bunch of hiking which is not something I do often. I will race on Sunday although it will be more of an experience for me than a race.  I have never run on trails to say nothing about racing on them.  It is uphill and then downhill.  I am not sure how I will be doing with the altitude.  Having said that I will get a  PR as I have never raced a 12K!  I plan to take my camera and take pictures like Johann and Julie.   I don't know if I will take as good pictures as they do but it won't be the scenery's fault!  While I am in CO I hope to meet Jill and Kathleen!  Yahoo for bloggy friends and bloggy meetups!!!

On the non running front I have been doing a lot of cleaning - which is really organizing, something I do every summer. And I am definitely into my summer reading mode where I read a ton. I am currently reading a Robin Cook book my friend gave me.  It seems very similar to other Robin Cook books I have read but it is entertaining and holding my interest. I will need some good reading to keep me entertained on the airplane and in the airports waiting for connections.  I have been watching the CO weather and it looks like I will get a break from this heat.  I CAN'T WAIT!

Soon I will be looking at this beautiful sight!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

I'm the opposite, I hate to be cold. But I dont run well in the heat, so I do a lot of treadmill summer running (and do a lot of winter TM running. Ok, I do a lot of TM running, period :) ). I think you'll be happy with the awesome weather we're having now in CO! CO, here you come!!!! Can't wait to meet you, yay!! :)

You and I are completely opposite--yes, it's hot, but to me, it is SO much better than winter! I'm sad that summer is 1/2 way over! Enjoy your trip--should be great.

Think about this way - you'll be prepared for that odd late fall race when the temperature on race day jumps way above normal.

I really have a hard time running in the heat and humidity too! I like running when the temps are cooler.

I really wanted to run in Colorado with all of you cool blogger girls but my co-worker is on vacation all week and there was no way that they were going to give me Friday off! I am so jealous that you will get to meet Jill and Kathleen...I love those Chicas too! When Jill told me that you were going also, I was like, "ajh is going to be there too!" Maybe there will be another race in the future where we can run together:) I would love to travel to your neck of the woods! I hope that you have a blast! I will be looking forward to all of your fantastic pictures:)

I know exactly what you mean about the temperatures. The only way to escape heat is in air-conditioning and you can't take that on the run. Good job on that 14 miler. It would have taken great tenacity to finish.

Have a great time in CO. That's a place I'd love to visit some time. Beautiful!

Personally, I'm happy that the heat is on. It's been so cold here for so long. My house is very cold and hard to heat up. I spend too much time being chilled to the bone.

I'm totally with you, I don't like to run when it's hot either, in fact I don't like it at all when it's too hot. I have my long run planned for tomorrow and it's getting hot so I'm getting up at 6.30 am in my vacation. On workdays (which is next week) I get out at 5.45 am but that's because I have to get to work on time.

Have fun in Colorado, I'm sure you'll do great and enjoy yourself.
