Three Things Thursday

1. I got my swimming in on Tuesday for this week.  Have I mentioned that I am really enjoying swimming?  I still suck at it but  maybe a little less each time I go. I still do mostly breast stroke but increase the number of free style laps each time.  This week I swam 12 freestyle laps all in groups of two. Soon I am going to go for 3 in a row.  The gravity is not pulling me toward the bottom of the pool as strongly during my current two.  I think I could maybe do 3.  By summer who knows?   I am doing the whole (my version) rhythmic breathing thing.  It goes by quickly and starts my day out with a great feeling. I love my swimming day routine but right now I only want to do it once a week. I have not been on my bike  for a week and a half though!

2.  I ran on the treadmill on Wednesday.  Not a lot of fun but I did what I set out to do.  I also ran today with no Ipod.  That was really no fun but another 5 miles done.

3. I'm rereading a Jodi Picoult book, not my favorite but I always enjoy her books. This one is Second Glance and she autographed it when I went to hear her speak at a Barnes and Noble.  It's been awhile since I read a book that really grabbed me. But having just said that I really enjoyed the book about Matt Long.  It is a very good story and makes any injury I have had seem like something I shouldn't even mention it is so inconsequential.

Nothing too exciting here although being back at running is always exciting. I am considering  a race this weekend to get one in November but no definite plans yet.  Enjoy the weekend.  Mine starts tomorrow.  Now that is exciting! And I have plans for the day which are all about me!  Then evening plans that include my husband and friends.

Your growing fondness for swimming inspires me. I don't think I even know the difference between a breaststroke and freestyle, I am that pathetic.
Yes you need to tri next year!
Friday sounds fabulous! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Oh, I often wonder if there will ever be a day where I can say I enjoy swimming.....Nice work!!

You are really torturing yourself this week-ha! Swimming, treadmill, no Ipod!

Plans all about me!! I love those! Have a great weekend:)

Way to get your swim on!

Your swimming's getting stronger and stronger. I have no doubt you'll be doing 3 in a row in no time.

And on to Words with Friends - do you know any word that can be made entirely of vowels. The tile-dealer is not being kind to me.

Keep up on the swimming. It is fun, and I like how the water keeps you cool even during a hard effort.

Good job on running on the treadmill, especially with no iPod.

I can only do breast-stroke when I swim. And when I hit the deeper end, I will completely forget how to even swim. Ha!

A three day weekend sounds GREAT! I get one next weekend, I can't wait!

Swimming is a weird thing. Once you finally get past feeling like you are going to die the whole time it's quite enjoyable. It's going to be struggle for me to get my swimming endurance back, but I truly can't wait to get back to it. I never would have thought I would say that.

You're making progress with the swimming, I bet that feels great! As much as I swim, I just don't enjoy it...it's just so monotonous swimming lap after lap after lap. Maybe if I had a waterproof iPod holder like Tara does, that'd help.

Nice treadmill, too. Happy to hear the heel is good!

There is a race this weekend up this way that I love but it's also the most difficult race I've ever done. I didn't register for it this year because of the marathon though. I am still tempted to go even though I caught a cold and haven't run since the marathon!!

I'm feeling so busy right now that I'm bummed I'm in the middle of this Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and feel like I shouldn't start the next book until I have time. No time to read books?? me thinks something has to give! Did you read this series? Did you like the second book as much as the first?

Good for you sticking with swimming, and so awesome that you are seeing improvements. You'll keep getting a little better each time.

Impressed by your swimming & improvements. I read Jodi Picoult too. What Nov race? There's a 15K in Schenectady on Nov 12.

Good job with your swimming and running! I'll run on the treadmill too because Italy is under a strong rain storm.
Have a nice weekend!

You do soooo much more training than I do...I just do most of my "training" in races. No wonder I never have any money! If I was as dedicated as you I'd be a force to be reckoned with.

I love hearing the change in how you're feeling swimming. Better get on that bike while you still can! I thought about you the other day when I saw an article on snow bikes. Maybe that would get you through the Vermont winter on two wheels. :)

Have a great weekend! Have fun shopping. :)

Triathlons in your future.... just sayin.

Wow - good job on the swimming! I like swimming but I can't stand getting in the cold water - and our swimming pool keeps their water very very cold. When my kids took swimming lessons there years ago, after every lesson their teeth would be chattering and their lips blue - BRRR!

Hooray on the swimming! It seems to be like everything else, it gets easier the more you practice. Guess Emily won't have to look the other way if you breaststroked through a tri now that you are mastering freestyle. :) Nice job!

Treadmill and no music: no fun.
Swimming: very good. I knew that you'd have enjoyed swimming.
