Three or Perhaps Five Things Thursday

1. Ohhh!  This is my friend's daughter's new baby! Isn't he precious!  Emily and I went to visit them before she went back to D.C.  He was a healthy 8 pounds when he was born and is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen.  Of course he doesn't begin to compare to the cuteness of Emily and Jameson
when they were babies but who could do that?

Emily and I on an early morning run before visiting
the cute cute baby above!

2. Racing/running - I have found a race to do in January plus I am going to do Adam's virtual race this Saturday. So January should be covered!  I have been going to the gym this week and it hasn't all been bad.  I am amazed at the miles that some of you crank out on the treadmill.  Five seems to be about my limit.   Give me the cold weather over the treadmill any day. So why do I use the gym?  Well, I have this odd thing where I don't mind the cold at all first thing in the morning (before I am awake?  before I have thought about it?  who knows?) but I don't like it later in the day when I have thought about and experienced how cold it is!  Plus I am a big don't run in the dark wuss and this time of year that is a problem after work!

Don't you love snow covered mountains (even
the small ones and a blue sky!)
3. I love winter. Today when I was teaching I stopped mid lesson to exclaim over the beauty of the falling snow with the sun peeking through! It was just gorgeous!  There is nothing as pretty as falling snow!  Nothing!

4.  One of my students let me know that his mother's friend has studded tires on her bike and is STILL commuting to work. I asked him how far and he thought 10 miles one way. I told him she had my deepest admiration.  I think I have dropped down as the fitness queen in this student's eyes!

5. Don't forget my giveaway!  If you ever come visit me in the winter to see the beautiful falling snow you will need some warm socks!

Hey, your pic almost looks like Alaska! Glad you like winter. I'm getting tired of it, and it's barely begun, sigh, sigh.
You should tell your student that you have studs on your running shoes. That ought to impress him, eh?
Cheers and happy running
P.S. I've strugged out 14 miles on the treadmill. Wanted to do 15 but just couldn't make myself keep. Going. Nowhere.

"If you ever come visit me..." I'm thinking about taking the family on a "tour" of VT, NH and ME during mid-winter or spring break to see the sights and capitol buildings. I may just have to figure a way to meet up with you.

It's dark before and after work. I'm with you though - give me outside first and morning for sure.

I dislike treadmill running but during the summer time, I think I appreciate having a treadmill at the gym. It is too hot in Arkansas to be running in the heat. That's when the treadmill and I started to bond a little and worked on our relationship a little. Still not great, but we tolerate each other pretty well now.
I love how you take the time to point out how pretty it is outside during class. We are so caught up with work and TV and people and we neglect the sheer beauty of nature. Growing up in a busy city, I never really saw stars twinkling in the sky. But once I moved to the U.S. and settled in a little town outside in the country, I love being about to see thousands of stars at night and even the slightest sliver of moon. I look at the sky every night for a few minutes and that makes me very happy and makes me feel very peaceful and lucky.

Gorgeous baby!
Wow studded tires? I guess they'd kill any snakes on contact.
Could not agree with you more about falling snow--it's heavenly!

Great job on braving the treadmill - a lot of people aviod it like the plague! Bless you for teaching too - my mom did that for 35 years! You have my respect.

I love newborns - I always cry when I hold one...

Treadmill - I know, I know the pain...not looking forward to my long run on it this weekend but...
that falling snow that you spoke of will be hitting me during my designated run time so treadmill it is...

love winter pics!

I stopped cycling when we got snow. 10 miles is pretty hardcore - maybe I should get some of those winter tyres?!

we never get snow in Malaysia so kind of envy when knowing you guys enjoy the winter. here in Malaysia is hot hot hot and humid for 365 days !!! :)

The studded tires do work but they are quite costly. (at least that's been our excuse to not ride as much in winter!!!) Smiling morning cold run with Em is always a good thing, right??!!

He's really cute!

A run on the treadmill seems forever while when you're running outside time flies by. I'm not a fan of running in the dark but I'm thinking of giving it another try once a week because it fits better in my workout schedule. I loved running before work during Summer: you got your workout in early and you have so much more energy all day.

Yay on finding a January race! I wish I liked the cold in the morning more. I love it in the evenings under the streetlights in town! The treadmill is a necessity but man I sure do love the outside!

Great pic of you and Emily.
I love the winter for running, but the rest of the time I FREEZE. It's really weird!

I'm opposite. I can't run in the cold in the morning. I have to get warm before I can exercise and in my house that can take quite a few hours. :(

You can tell by looking at that photo that that is one adorable little baby!! -- and I don't often say that. But that's a cutie!

Snow is just wonderful. So beautiful! I laugh when I see people go for their umbrellas when it snows. I love to be in it and feel it landing delicately on my face. Pure joy!
