Snow Day/Giveaway Winner #2/An Awesome Couple

I knew there was a storm predicted for the Northeast but we weren't supposed to get really hit.  So this morning when the phone rang I expected it to be my husband. Well I was shocked when it was our automatic system for canceling school.  Half the fun of a snow day is the anticipation, the chatter, the excitement, wearing your pjs backward so it will happen!  But this one..........who knew? I have to say I didn't really want a snow day. My plans are all made - now they need to be redone, Wednesday is my easy day, I had some meetings I didn't want to miss (and others - well Woot Woot over missing those) and of course when we have snow days the year goes longer!  But no one asked me and yes the roads did get bad so I decided to just relax and enjoy it.

And I have done just that!

First it was a chance to go back to bed with the paper and a cup of coffee.  Read the paper, talk on the phone, go on line, snuggle with the cats.  All good things.  Then I got dressed and headed out for one of those snowy runs that I LOVE!  It was 13 degrees and snowing fairly hard.  I traded the usual headband for a hat, wore 3 layers on top and wore my new Lulu pants I got for Christmas from Emily.  I knew I liked these pants but now I am completely in love.  They were all I needed.  They are warm and super cozy!  Love them!
Had to use the Yak Trax on my run
this is when I was just starting.

This is the road I ran on - visibility wasn't great.

The snow was like running on soft sand.  It wasn't plowed for the most part.  I can't even begin to tell you how long this run took me.  I took my camera to take some pictures. Eventually I stopped turning off the timer as it was too much of a pain. I would get out of the way of "traffic" too.  It wasn't too cold or windy so that helped.  I didn't see anyone else on foot.

Darlene has chosen the socks she wants from my giveaway so today I repeated the same process as last time and selected winner number two.  It is Jamie from Running and Some Sauce on Top.

Last I want to link this awesome video.  This is an older couple who races a lot in my area.  They are very inspiring and if you watch the video you will see they are ever so sweet together. Enjoy!

Ha ha ha ... backwards Pj's ... kinda like a rally-cap in baseball I suppose!

WOW - that is some serious snow! I mean there was a lot before, but this looks like "get some canned goods and firewood and be prepared to settle in" type of snow!

Coffee and the paper followed by a snowy run sounds like heaven to me! Beautiful pics!

You are such a kid. Grownups, when they see snow and hear about school closures, stay at home and don't even consider going out.

Loved, loved the video.

Those were the yak trax at the START? Whoa!
Very beautiful pictures, though. Almost makes me miss Michigan snow. Almost.

Yikes, I hope it's not on its way over here!! That's a lot of snow :)
I loved that video...what an inspiring couple! Thanks for sharing that. It's funny, just tonight, my husband was ready the latest Runner's World and he said, the Vermont marathon must be nice and it's not that far away from here. It's at the same time as Ottawa, but maybe in 2012 :)

This might be my first year ever without a snow day! I'm surprised :) We usually have one, but not enough snow fell this year. We have until mid-March before we're out of "snow day" potential...so I've still got hope!

Hope you enjoyed it :)

Beautiful pictures! I used to love snow days. Now? Not so much. It just messes with my routine. LOL

I never heard the thing about backward pyjamas and I grew up in Chicago, so we had a lot of snow days. We used to get the radio on in the morning with our fingers crossed, just waiting for our school district to be called!
Glad you made the most of your day!

I'll have to check the video later, but good for you getting out in the snow, of course where you live, that's just daily living! :) As always, your pics are fantastic!

"I didn't see anyone else on foot." Gee, I wonder why?!?! You are brave and awesome for running in weather like that - thanks for sharing the pics!

Ok, that stuff is very pretty to look at, but I am not sure how you run in that stuff without killing yourself!! I ran today on snowpacked trails and struggled badly with the bottoms of my feet. Now I'd snowshoe in that stuff you have :).

And how fun that you got an unexpected snowday - woohooo!!! We had a "delayed start" the other day and and wouldn't you know it, I didn't get the phone call and went to work on time. Grrr. I should have known when I went and I wasn't in a massive line, as is the norm (all high schools feel they must drive).

btw, I have a dr. appt next Friday. Good news. Insurance denied again. Bad news. At least I'm moving forward :).

Very nice and cold - please keep luring the snow to your area so we can get a few 55 degree days like today :-)) Love the picture with the bridge and river - falling snow frames everything nicely!!

You talked on the phone from your house? Do people still do that? BTW, looks tropical. It's going to be in the 70's this weekend on this coast.

I'm not surprised you didn't see anyone else on foot. Way to go getting out there in that snow. Thanks for all the lovely photos. My son dreams about a snow day...not going to happen here!

go random.ajh!

how often do you have to run in the yaktrax? i imagine you have snowy roads/trails/sidewalks pretty often? i have missed being able to run this week but can't justify buying yaktrax for our one snowing per year...

Lots of snow. Good for you getting out there and making the best of it.
I have Yaks as well but like my IceBugs better. They have the spikes right in the sole.

Okay, I'm not complaining the next time I run in the cold here in Texas. That looks like hard running! I hope I'm still running when I'm that couple's age and loving it just like them.

I think I would enjoy running on a day like that (with the right equipment, of course).

Brrrrrrrr!

Though sometimes I think that running through snow like that would be better than through rainy rainy portland.
