On my lovely canopy road with a change in the weather
Saturday
It was 32 degrees outside. I told T it wasn't snowing and I was going for a bike ride if she wanted to join me. By the time she got here it was snowing. Did I wear my rain pants? No! Do I understand that rain and snow are the same thing? Well, maybe. I got soaked. The first 8 1/2 miles were fine. I was a little cold but really just my toes and fingers. It snowed a fair amount and we were getting quite wet! Then my toes got quite cold and my fingers were beyond cold. I think it was the combo of the wet and the cold. Believe me the last 3 1/2 miles were agony.
By this point both T and I were more than a little cold!
I really lost my confidence as a cold weather biker! Hence....
Sunday
Today was also 32 degrees and spitting snow all day. I had thought I might try running today where you actually warm up as you move but decided I would not yet. So I told T I was heading to the gym. I had not been once in October so it was nice to actually use it since I am paying for it. I enjoyed it as I was not in a hurry and I saw people I had not seen in awhile. I read my book something I can do on the elliptical (Julia Glass's new book - The Widower's Tale - quite good). I used the elliptical for what I consider my minimum workout on it. Believe me there is always an amount I have to do no matter the form of exercise!
This week is going to be a tricky one to fit in any exercise but I will try. I CAN NOT WAIT for Friday when I will see my girl! Our plan is to use the gym there since we can't do our usual running! Plus Jameson was here to help his dad get some wood today and stayed for supper! Yeah for adult children who spend time with you! Love them!

Riding outside in the cold is so much harder than running in the cold! Maybe you need a bike trainer for the holidays?
where did the summer go? I swear it was only yesterday when everyone was going on about the heat...
brrrrr, thank goodness for the elliptical!
Wow that looks so cold! You're a brave woman to venture out in that.
Oh my goodness, you already have the white stuff!?! You actually got the stuff that stayed on the ground:) A few days ago we had a mix of rain and snow...it melted shortly after. Good Lord, I am just not ready yet! Way to to on getting out there and toughing out the elements! You are a rock star!
What's snow? :-) I love the eliptical for x-training and a good cardio workout.
I love spending time with my adult children :)
I used to like the eliptical, but now it bores me...oh how I feel for you ajh. We have snow too...of course. Really, you must be so close to me, our weather is always the same :)
WOW! you are dedicated. i am already starting to chicken out about biking in the cooler temps - aka 50s and 60s! LOL. guess i need to (wo)man up!
First snow?
It looks pretty. I was out running this a.m. and it was in the low 40s. I enjoyed it but I shudder to think what it would be like if it dropped below 40. Guess I need to start shopping for winter running clothes.
Wow, snow already! How long has it been since you last ran? When do you think you'll try again?
Snow? eek! I enjoy the elliptical for cross training but I can't figure out how you manage to read while on it - doesn't the bobbing up and down make it hard?
Brrr.
Just saw your question about bike trainers on my blog--yes, I have one and use it all the time, actually. Email if you want to chat about them!
I second the vote for an indoor trainer - I love mine!!
I'm so impressed that you rode in the snow, you ROCK!
Cold riding takes some getting used to for sure, especially when wet. You certainly need to do everything to keep from staying wet, as the built-in wind chill from ride speed gets quite raw. Nice ride - made for some totally different photos!
I've tried reading while on the elliptical and couldn't do it. I must bounce too much (which, I know, defeats the purpose). The ride might have been cold but the pictures are tres cool.
Certainly looks cold. I don't blame you for moving indoors. Have a good week!
Snowwwwwwww! We got some white stuff yesterday too. I can't believe you cycled in that!!
That is HARDCORE! I cannot imagine biking in the snow.
You could get a bike trainer, that way you can still get on the saddle but from the comfort of your own warm, dry home.
Snow? Awk!!! Please snow stay away from CO for awhile - I'm so loving our Indian Summer!!
The Elliptical is a great workout...though I hate it, but still, gotta do what you gotta do! Right? Hoping when you return to the running world, your heel is going to be happy happy happy!!!!
I cannot believe you rode in that. wel.....yes, I can believe YOU did because, you are amazing .
I feel guilty sitting here in 86 degrees. You are a rockstar. Enjoy your family Friday!!
Miss Zippy is right - you might need to get a trainer for an early Christmas present! Running in the cold is MUCH easier than riding. Riding takes LOTS of character! (Sometimes too much, in my book!) :-)
Beautiful pics... loving the scenery. When it gets cold here (for the FEW days!), it's always a very different kind of run ~ and takes forever to put all those layers on!
I have never biked in the snow but I know even if it is just cold I freeze on the bike. I guess wind chill adds to the misery.
Snow sure looks pretty though.
Wow! I went on vacation and you had all these pretty fall colors in your photos. I come home and it is all white! That was fast!
